With all the new details about Halo Infinite taking place on Zeta Halo and couple other things, insanely curious how they will be able to tie in Halo Wars 2 to the story. I really enjoy the Spirit of Fire storyline and have been waiting for years to see it intersect with the main storyline in a sort “Avengers meet the Guardians of the Galaxy” type crossover. I especially love the Banished and also how the Flood have returned on the Ark (a promise of things to come?). Just wondering how they could possibly fit Red Team, Spirt of Fire and Atriox into Infinite.
Could the Banished be like a second faction so we have that Covenant-type enemy in the game without everything being Prometheans? Banished dont have any Jackals so don’t have to worry about snipers (PTSD triggered). And could the Ark make an appearance? With Zeta Halo all but confirmed too, could that mean the Flood spread from the Ark to the ring?
What do you guys think? First post in years because recent news has just gotten me so hype I had to come back here.
I personally believe this crossover doesn’t involve anything that big. The way HW2 could tie into the story is due to one character: Anders.
SPOILERS FOR HALO WARS 2 ENDING
The ring she was on was seemingly captured by Cortana, evidenced by a Guardian stopping the ring straight from slipspace. Given that Infinite takes at least 2 full years (or almost) since Halo Wars 2, we can definitely assume that Cortana has Anders under her control.
By the way, as for the Covenant enemies of the game, I expect another sort of Halo 4, in which the Covenant species will be working with the Promethean forces (to the end). How? Well, it’s clearly evident by one of her speeches in the last mission of Halo 5 Guardians:
> Cortana: Humanity. Sangheili. Kig-Yar. Unggoy. San’Shyuum. Yonhet. Jiralhanae. All the living creatures from this Galaxy, hear this message.
> Those of you who listen will not be struck by weapons. You will no longer known hunger, nor pain. Your Created have come to lead you now.
> Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun towards which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper.
> However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their old ways…
> For you, there will be great wrath. It will burn hot and consume you, and when you are gone, we will take that which remains, and we will remake it in our own image.
The Unggoy (Grunts) instantly pledged themselves to her side.
I believe that the Kig-Yar (Jackals) will also join her, depending if her offer interests them (which will likely be the case).
As for the Sangheili (Elites) and Jiralhanae (Brutes), I’m not sure. There will definitely be groups that’ll join and others that don’t.
I believe that the San’Shyuum (Prophets) will also join her seeing how she’s basically controlling Forerunner technology and how their species see the Forerunners as Gods. We may actually get to fight Prelates here (San’Shyuum warriors).
As for the Yonhet, I have absolutely no idea. I don’t know how their species are, their usual interests and beliefs, but I do know that they’re not the fighting type, and as such, it’s likely, if not, guaranteed that we won’t fight them in Infinite.
Finally, Humanity. I thoughtfully believe that we will get to fight Human enemies, who (could have) joined out of fear or opportunity. Fighting a Scorpion tank will be quite challenging, but fighting a Spartan-IV with good AI will be an interesting experience (assuming, of course, that we’ll have Human enemies at all).
And seeing how this is the Created, we will definitely see Prometheans. They’re the main force of the Created, why wouldn’t we see them?
As for Flood, even if we don’t get to fight, I SO HOPE we get some callbacks to the Forerunner-Flood war, as Zeta Halo was such a important piece of the puzzle.

It is not confirmed to be zeta halo

How is it not? There’s clear evidence in the '18 trailer.

Mentioned but not confirmed.Go to halopedia under the infinite appearances section,it lists zeta halo as mentioned only
I am interested to see how Anders’ story line will be resolved. A little bit of me feels that 343 might just drop this thread or resolve it in the EU. I would be super hyped if red team and blue team are brought together to fight the created.
I hope they keep the Halo Wars and the main series story separate. We don’t need more feelings of “What the #*$% is going on?” because people either haven’t played another totally unrelated game of another genre or read a book. Just look at what happened to Halo 5 because of it.

I agree, I don’t like RTS games, I tried the first Halo Wars because it was Halo but dropped it quickly and passed on Halo Wars 2. I don’t want to play games I don’t like and read books to know what’s going on in Halo Infinite.

Halo wars has characters who are connected to masterchief and halsey. And people can just watch the cutscenes for halo wars 1 and 2 to get caught up

We should not have to though. As I stated, I don’t like Halo Wars, and I’ll wager I’m not the only one, why should we be forced to play or research you tube or read comics to understand what’s going on in the game we just bought ?

You could just have red team make an appearance and put two and two together that they know chief

No, not nevermind. That’s exactly the point Terg500 and myself are trying to point out. It’s not as easy as putting two and two together if you don’t know who they are. So that would lead to research outside of Halo Infinite because players would be thinking who are these guys ? I don’t doubt Halo Wars has a compelling story, but I should not have to play or research it to understand what’s going on in Halo Infinite.

So you dont want me to dismiss your point but then you dismiss my comment about halo wars having a good story…how about you actually watch the cutscenes are read up on it before you dismiss it

I’m not dismissing your comment about Halo Wars having a good story, I clearly stated that I DON’T doubt that Halo Wars has a compelling story. However, I don’t want to watch cut scenes from Halo Wars to understand what’s going on in Halo Infinite.
I bet that the Banished will make an appearance and they’ll be given a quick recap.
What if they followed the extremely successful steps of Avengers Endgame and had some kind of final battle where we get to see everyone rise up against Cortona. Red Team, Blue Team, Fireteam Osiris, Arbiter and the Elites, Atriox and the Banished,… Who knows.

I understand where you’re coming from, but that really sounds like a you problem. If you openly refuse to find answers to questions that the games raise, especially when those answers are readily available, then I really don’t understand the problem. Any information that you would need to understand a Halo Wars reference can be quickly found with a quick google search, YouTube video, etc.

The onus is on the game developer to properly explain the story in a way that’s understandable and enjoyable to most people, while also not taking away from the immersion. Fans like you and I will probably already know much of the EU and it won’t be a problem for us. However it’s going to be super confusing for newer players, or even casuals who aren’t knowledgeable about all the lore. 343i have already said that they want Infinite to be easily accessible for both veterans and newbies.
Think of yourself starting a new franchise and being expected to look at spinoffs and books just to understand what’s happening. I’d just assume it was bad storytelling and quit the game.
