The diehard fans will know who Fred, Kelly, and Linda and why they’re with John. Average players will probably be confused and wonder who these Spartan IIs are and why they’re fighting alongside Chief. How do you think Fred, Kelly, and Linda will be introduced in the game?

That’s… a pretty good point, one which I never thought of.
How will they be introduced?
Personally, I think 343i will take the average player course, by that I mean… introducing the characters in such a way that doesn’t assume the player knows about their background or anything about them for that matter.
I say that because 343i already made the mistake of assuming the player would be up-to-date with the Halo 4 campaign.
They dumped all these ‘new’ things that many players had no idea of unless they read some books or did some good digging on the older games.
The Didact, The Librarian, the Prometheans… the Human-Forerunner war…
Why did the Didact hate humans?
Who is the Librarian? Why is she a ‘good’ forerunner and the Didact a ‘bad’ forerunner?
I imagine many people were confused.

I know I was. And I had done the research.
I suppose that they will have an indroductory cutscene where they show us why they are fighting alongside John.
By the way OP:
> The diehard fans will know who Fred, Kelly, and Linda ARE and why they’re with John.
I’m really hoping 343i introduce a “codex system” similar to what Mass Effect had; a list of all the relevant events, characters, weapons, etc., all updated as the irrelevant become relevant via rational design decisions. Also. players should be prodded to check it out with notifications. Why wouldn’t it work?
Maybe Locke is being debriefed (in the form of a cutscene) and Fred, Kelly, and Linda will have their role in John’s life explained. A few words are sufficient – “Agent Locke, you’re going to go find Master Chief Petty Officer 117 and you’re goin’ to drag his rusty butt back here. You’re also to retrieve Spartans 087, 104, and 058; they’re the remaining components of Blue Team, a still operational splinter team of the original Spartans-II, and the closest thing to family the Master Chief has.”

I am hoping we get a prologue similar to halo 4, but showing scenes with chief and the rest of blue team.

This is exactly how I envision it.
Linda will be introduced by stealing Chief’s BR scope when hes not looking
Blue Team is simple enough that they shouldn’t be that difficult to explain.
I get the feeling with the ‘hunt’ theme things will start off from Locke’s perspective. They may be covered by his mission briefing and might have special encounters with them before we even get to play as chief and them.
Maybe a cinematic Cutscene during the Prologue, explaining/showing how the Didact died in Escalation?
That would be a nice Introduction to Blue Team as a whole, and a good start for Guardians, in my opinion.
i imagine locke introducing them telling about their backgrounds and such, the same way he did with arbiter in the H2A terminals.
It will probably be like the Dr. Halsey scene at the beginning of Halo 4. Explain the back story of how they were the best team the UNSC has seen. They were sent to find MC, and since they know him and he wants to be with them. They find each other and never come back. Now Locke needs to know why MC is gone, and blue with him.

You could say Bungie did the same thing. Someone who got into Halo during 2 or 3 would probably have no idea what happened in the previous games.
I want them as playable characters.
To answer the question…have you watched age of ultron? The first 10 minutes…change the avengers with blue team…done

But they were not send to find him, they have gone AWOL together.
Was having this discussion with a friend. Mechanically, they’ll probably have a “good to see you remember the old times” moment if they bump into John. If they don’t see John, but are with Locke to start, he’ll probably facilitate introductions with his team.
My concern is that this really needs to feel like a huge moment, because it is. We’ve only ever seen one Spartan II at a time. Now we’ll get three or four? And legendary ones just a half-notch below the Chief? 343 needs to nail that moment.
I think Halo 5 will begin with a John mission (before a long string of Locke missions) ending in a cliffhanger regarding his disappearance. This would be a good place to physically, visually introduce Blue Team and give them character in the cutscenes. Show how badass they are.
Their canon background and relationship with John can be explained in Locke’s mission debrief. As in, “the Master Chief was last seen with Blue Team, a group of the last surviving Spartan IIs and his team from the early stages of the war with the Covenant. Linda is the sniper, Kelly is the fastest of them and an expert in CQC, Fred is the most precise or whatever” intercut with holograms showing each of the Blue Team members.
I’m more interested in how Locke’s team gets introduced.

They’ll be with John from the beginning, if Escalation is anything to go by.
