As you should know, any moderately good FPS player on PC will have a significant advantage over a Good controller player, even with controller FPS games minimal auto aim, the mouse is just far more precise and faster. Having full cross platform play where mouse/keyboard would be optional on both Xbox Two and PC might be a mess. Anyone using controller would be at risk of losing a lot and some people prefer using a controller, it won’t be fair for them.
What I think must be done for Halo 6 infinite is all controller players should have their own separate online lobby. There should only be one playlist that is Controller vs Keyboard/Mouse just for testing purposes to see if they can really balance both.
All console players should have the option to play against the PC gamers in their lobby since the next Xbox will most likely have gaming mouse/keyboard support. This will help rise the population more for the PC version, Console FPS games that were very popular on Console have often suffered in terms of player numbers when it came to their PC versions. That is probably why Call of Duty went to the Blizzard platform, on Steam COD games multiplayer had most game modes unplayable due to low population count and it had a lot of Hackers. I don’t think Halo 6 would suffer from a lack of players on PC Steam since it’s probably going to be really popular.
Not really, because Halo Wars 2 allows this and it apparently isn’t that much of an issue. Granted that is an overhead strat game and not an FPS, I’m sure competitive nature playlists will not feature cross platform compatibility. That’s honestly the only place it really matters.
My opinion on it is that hopefully there’s an option to not use cross play.
Looking at other games it will probably just be up to the player with ‘enabled/disabled’ options.
I’m starting to feel that the M/KB domination of controller is greatly exaggerated. Reach PC, Modern Warfare and (yes) Fortnite are all examples of where console players frequently smash my head in when I’m playing on M/KB. I don’t see why Infinite is going to be any different.
Giving players the option to either enable or disable crossplay seems like the most sensible option to me.
Cooperative modes should be crossplay, and competitive (PvP) should be platform specific. For the general userbase (The huge masses of people who play the game the first few months, but don’t play it very often afterwards.), where PvP isn’t actually that competitive, it doesn’t matter so much, but the moment somebody who’s really good at using a mouse joins a game with players who are using a controller, the person using the mouse will have a hardware advantage. This really wrecks the game in the long run, where eventually you would be forced to use a different input method to remain competitive. Although the same concern exists for cooperative modes in which players compete for high scores against the AI, the gap between controller and mouse players would be much smaller, due to the fact that AI is generally an easier target than any moderately skilled players. I believe that margin would be acceptable, but that would remain to be seen after possible playtesting.

Yeah I agree. MW has the option to disable cross play, I see no reason why Halo would not have the same option.
Yep! It wouldn’t be a smart move by 343 to not have the option to opt in or out of cross play.

I agree. Everyone thinks MKB gives such a big advantage but it honestly doesn’t. The only place it should be restricted is in ranked games. The person on PC should have the option to connect with a controller and play ranked with console people tho. But ranked is all I care about to ensure it’s fair across the board. In socials I don’t care what they play with because I’m there for fun
I agree with the sentiment of “competitive plays in the same environment” and “co-op plays across platform”

Halo Wars was designed with a controller in mind, and Halo Wars 2 follows that controller-based formula. If it were a traditional strategy game then people with a keyboard and mouse would be at an advantage, but things are intentionally simple.
I think Infinite’s aim assist slowdown and rotational assist will quite be low(just like Halo 5’s aim assist was lowered from Reach and 4, although bullet magnetism stayed the same/increased slightly).
Even then, the difference between KBM and Controller exists, but it is greatly exaggerated. Especially in a game like Halo where, barring the Sniper and Beam Rifle, pin-point accurate aim doesn’t matter quite as much as map movement, knowledge and power position control. Most of the fun comes from the power weapons and objective-based game modes in Halo, anyway.
My biggest thing is as long as there an option to disable it for the general populace. And not in any competitive setting until proven controller can compete. Most games controller can’t and it’s just not a good time.
