You will unlock weapons, perks, classes, and stuff in the campaign. I read an article today that says that 343 is aiming to make multiplayer more friendly to casuals (who love to play the campaign) by “connecting the campaign with the multiplayer experience.”
I took that to mean that players will unlock stuff in the campaign and take that stuff on over to multiplayer to try it out.
Edit:
This was explicitly explained in the article as connecting the campaign with a game mode called “War Games,” which is the name for competitive matchmaking.
Taking that statement and making a thread about “unlocking things in MP by playing campaign” is a terrible stretch it shouldn’t have been made into a thread as it’s 99.9% likely to be nonsense.

Actually, no, genius. The article explicitly made a distinction between three game modes: Campaign, Spartan Ops, and “War Games.”
“War Games” is multiplayer matchmaking. They were referring to connecting War Games with the campaign, specifically. Not multiplayer Spartan Ops. That’s a totally separate issue.

They were wrong. They meant a connection between Spartan Ops and War Games or Spartan Ops with Campaign. War Games and Campaign don’t give eachother anything really, and Campaign and Infinity are completely separate aside from story (Spops’ story will tie in to campaign).
