Ok so here is the deal, with as much detail as I can give you. I am new to the online gaming scene. I am trying to show my girlfriends 10 yr old son how to learn to take gaming to the next level. So I bought us the Xbox One Limited Edition Halo 5: Guardians Bundle - Custom. It came with: A full game download of Halo 5 Guardians, Warzone REQ Bundle, FOTUS-class armor and multiplayer emblem, UNSC Spartan Locke-inspired controller. I also bought a second Spartan Locke controller for myself. Oh it came with a headset too. Ok so we both have 1yr xbox live gold accounts & a very fast internet connection. So I got it all set up & BAM no split screen WTF 343 I’m pissed. Better have it for Halo6 anyways besides that huge disappointed we started playing slayer. I set my guy up all the entry level stuff & can’t figure out how to chat. I have heard I need the adapter, but the halo controller has the headset jack 3.5mm, so I shouldn’t I can hear other people chatting during battle on my T.V. & I want to be able to participate an help my team to dominate. So I gave him the FOTUS armor which he loves. he tried to connect too nothing, so we have looked on youtube read fourms but nothing for info on this. Especially for beginners like us. So i updated controllers and checked setting for chatting added friends & people to my fireteam ect
In the menu during battle there is option game chat or party. I have tried so many things. I am so frustrated over how hard somthing so simple is. So today we are going to buy one adapter try it see if that works don’t see why it would though. All ur thoughts on this would help alot. Please keep it to the topic of how to chat on halo 5. I’m assuming it was the standard xbox one headset? Does the Locke controller not have a plug-in for it?
Sucks to hear about the mic not working, I don’t know which mic you’re speaking of though. However, since you have one of those fancy controllers with a headphone jack you might be able to make a “mic”. Basically, if you have headphones with a mic on it (like the stock ones you get with IPhones) then you can use that as a mic.

Actually you can’t use iPhone mics for chat. You can get sound from the game and other people, but that’s it.
The mic that comes with the H5 console is complete and utter -Yoink-. Everyone I know who bought it has had bad experiences. Myself included. Also, the majority of players play in party chat not game chat because 343 does not allow any chat in pre and post game lobbies without party chat. So you won’t find too many people to talk to.
Ok thanks for that info I just tried it and nothing I know the chat set is crap but it dose work I used it on my phone and could hear and talk just fine. I will upgrade when I get my best buy gift card but for now just need to figure this out. My girlfriends brother said i need to update my controller with it plugged in but i already updated without it pluges in and dont know how to uninstall the update to start over excot to rest my whole consel which mean i have to redownload my game and that take a while any other ideas would help alot
Usually for me if my headset isn’t working I turn my controller off and back on then it’s fine, I sometimes have issues when it’s wired too so don’t do that. Also check the volume settings are all turned up on the controller and you haven’t muted yourself. Finally make sure you’re in the right chat when playing.
So what i have discovered on this topic is some people chat some people dont. The headset i received with the console is crap so i bought a $80 Alienware chat head set it works great. The other things i have found is that chat glitches some times and some times my head set doesn’t work i found that even though im paired with my set if i remove the usb adapter for a few seconds it repairs to the headset and fixes some issues. If u have any other comments or questions plest feel free to say something.
