how to please the RANKED crowd

All competitive playlists should be ranked. Period. I don’t care what system. I don’t care if there are ways for people to cheat the ranking system. If you don’t want to read this wall of text, skip to the bold text.
Here is my reasoning…

If you don’t care about rank, don’t look at the number (or division color, or whatever). If you don’t care, it shouldn’t matter.

If you do care about rank, GOOD NEWS, it’s there! That should be the end of the conversation.

With that reasoning, there should be no reason why every single playlist couldn’t have its own ranking system.

The truth is, a high number of people care about their image in game. Essentially, they don’t want people to be able to see how bad they are. Fear of losing rank, and fear of being criticized, empty playlists and kill game population over time. This needs toe be addressed.

However, not embracing competitive play has its own consequences. Exposure in MLG, competitive live streams and so on, can inflate awareness for a game. This is especially true in an age that is making it easier and more socially viable for people to watch tournaments online in record numbers. This should also be considered . Think about what can happen when you make pros excited about a legitimate ranking system again. An in game ladder where young dreamers can climb the ranks and hope to get recruited to a top team, or even have a platform on which to start their own. Even if only for the reason of keeping us die hard fans trying to track and develop our mediocre skills over time.

This is the conversation game developers should be having.

Create an option where players can choose to hide their rank from the world. Both on the website and in game. This can be changed from playlist to playlist. This way, people can play without worrying that they are being judged, or the pressure of watching that silly number going up and down. The people who want to have it shown can decide to do so. Some really good players will decide to hide, possibly to keep opponents guessing. Therefore you really couldn’t say “if it’s hidden, you’re bad”.

If I’m looking at this all wrong, please let me know. I’m sorry for the wall of text, but I really don’t want another two years of unranked doubles and UNRANKED MLG WTF…but I digress.

When I was in 20% onyx, I would have hidden my rank if possible. I would probably hide a 50 also from time to time. I’m sure lots of people better than me would hide it.

I do understand that mentality.

I smile at the thought of hiding my rank, have a hardcore assume I’m bad, then they get completely spanked in the match. That would be awesome.

I would actually like to know how skillfull my teammates and the other team are before starting the game.

And some prefer the surprise and thrill of finding out in-game.

While I don’t care for rank at all, it is somewhat necessary.

I’d like to be paired with people of my skill again, also include social playlists so guests and casual people can go.

I absolutely hate it when I play a game and I get stuck with

this is a very opinionated thing to say. I mean you have no idea what the intentions 343i has in any of the future halo games. They could still put one in 4 or havent said anything about it yet.

They said there is a ranking system and a progression system.

Saying that if you want a ranking system back then you should play halo 3 forever is just wrong. People want the game to evolve but also want to play something new. Why should people who want to play halo 4 with ranks have to play halo 3 because there might not be ranks in halo 4.

im guessing that you dont like the ranks which is why you made that statement. Everyone is entitled to say what they want but give a valid reason of why you dont want it instead of saying “NO!”.

I never said we didn’t need ranked. I just think we need something better than Arena, and better than 1-50.

Arena had the right idea, but it was poorly executed.

because the community is smart enough to realize 95% of the time a hidden rank will=BAD

How would you know if they are a “hardcore” if they have their rank hidden.

Apparently you are one of those people who want the ranking system gone because you likely couldn’t make it past a 35 and blame your failures on the ranking system, derankers and boosters. Please continue to play reach because that is the only game you will ever be good at, next to call of duty that is.
