Hi. I got my halo 2 vista copy today. I happily did a full install and started it successfully. I played first mission and completed it. High on h2 I started multiplayer and got a message that my product key is invalid. This I can’t understand what to do, I heard that h2 vista comes with multiplayer then how to make it work. Help.
I have a silver Xbox live account. It is still active. I tried using it with the game. I’d like to know whether I’m correct in doing so.
Well the MP doesn’t work anyway so you’re not missing out. The servers were shut down almost a year ago.

You can play Campaign without a license key but Multiplayer was shut down almost a year ago
Hello it me again. I been trying out halo 2. I have installed from DVD played a few levels and game progresses not asking for activation. The levels played well even with an Xbox 360 controller. I just remembered my Xbox gt so I added it into the game by clicking on Live at main menu. No connection. The game doesn’t show achievements. I checked my DVD box it has manual. While installing, setup didn’t specify to enter the key. I can’t find where to enter it in game and the game doesn’t ask me for activation. So I’m still stuck with no multiplayer and no idea on how to play online. Worse feeling is looking at the DVD box and reading multiplayer maps bonus map editor and some extra content.
The Multiplayer is back, you just need to go to http://www.h2v.online/ and register an account for it there. Then download the launcher and login. After that, use the launcher to start halo 2 and go to network. Servers will show up and just double click on a server to join. Hope that helps 
but yeah official multiplayer through Live was shutdown.
Well i tried it. didnt work. After reading the manual i decided to reinstall halo 2. After installing i found i can play games by clicking on Network menu. Managed to start a server and the game began, was the only one playing in it. Staying put with campaign.
I don’t even know how to -Yoinking!- install it lol. It says some -Yoink- that I need Games for Windows Live.

Yes and yes, but only if you play the original GFWL version. If you play the project cartographer version, then you can’t get achievements.
its me again. I was starting the game by clicking on halo 2 for vista link in start menu (win8). Was doubting whether the game cd i had was fail. So i googled a bit and stumbled across this link.
I followed exactly the procedure and started startup.exe as stated and viola! an activation window asking my product key popped up. I entered it and another dialog said activation was successful.
So i started halo 2 vista and used my profile for gt kksi2010. But the game doesnt log me in, instead it says my product key is invalid. I tried logging into xbox at xbox live and was able to log in. How to login into live then? Cos achievements also do not show up. I completed cairo station but the achievement shows locked!! As for multiplayer… iv given up hope.
