Hey guys,
Scrolling through the forums all I see is hate threads either directed at 343 or at all the people who are upset over the lack of a falcon in MOR. What got me thinking is that both sides have a point. Firstly 343 did not say anything about a falcon though the ONI card thing was a joke. Secondly all the people who support 343 are correct, the falcon in it’s halo reach state would not be a viable option for halo 5, it would get annihilated.
Does that mean there should be no falcon? Hell no, it just needs to be upgraded to suit halo 5. Keeping in mind that Reach was set some years prior to halo 5 (can’t actually remember when H5 is set) and this is science fiction, it doesn’t have to be feasible in todays society.
Issue #1: Lack of evasive capability leading to easy EMP:
With the ease of spawning plasma plasma pistols this is one of the biggest issues the falcon will face, almost every person on the battle field can call one in. I think that the fix for this is simply to write into the law that the upgraded falcon has some mechanism which makes it invulnerable to emp: perhaps the body of the craft absords the surge or the circuits are hardened, who cares it solves the issue.
Issue #2: Low speed, lack of evasive capability leading to very easy missile lock:
Again, I think that it would be reasonable to give the falcon the ability to scramble missile lock. If you can hit it without guidance creds to you, destroy that sucker but they do move pretty fast and a competent pilot should be able to dodge a straight flying rocket. Alternatively it could be made to spiral rockets out of control completely, let us know what you think.
Issue #3: Low speed, lack of evasive capability leading to spartan laser multi kills:
Now i’m not going to go so easy as to say make it laser proof also, that’d be ridiculous. But one thing that has bugged me in this game is the spartan laser mechanics. I don’t see why a straight shooting laser would simply detonate a vehicle. I think that once a falcons health bar is at 0 it should go down, and explode on impact with the ground, not just explode when it hits 0 health. What I mean is belch flame out of the air vents while it spirals out of control towards the ground. And then once it hits the ground it explodes. Prevent the driver from leaving as is the way with vehicle boarding to allow the shooter their well earned kill, but allow the passengers and gunners to jump out and ground pound down or whatever they choose to do.
Let us know what you think guys, I think that constructive reasoning is a lot more helpful than spamming and name calling.
Alternatively, don’t forget that in reach, noble 6 and jorge survived a falcon crash on spire. Perhaps passengers survive the crash but are left on one or two shot?
I think it’s ridiculous that the ONI and Hannibal variants so far aren’t EMP-hardened. No missile lock-on is a good idea too. Though the one thing it really needs is to be able to survive BR spam…

I definitely agree. I hadn’t noticed this so much lately because i’m not a massive vehicle user, and when I do it is often banshees. But the armour on vehicles is so easily damaged by infantry fire. I had a scorpion on darkstar and I was in the middle of the map for no more than 20seconds getting reasonably heavy BR fire and when I backed out I already had smoke coming out of the back. I think that the armour/anti armour system as a whole needs to be revised.
very good point I would love for the falcon to return and I’m hopping its in the warzone firefight update
Nice points. the crash landing idea is something I have wanted ever since I used a Falcon in Reach. It also needs to be less vulnerable to BR spam

just STOP…I’m going to refrain from calling you what I want to say. Stop reviving old Falcon topics.

At the very least the Hannibal variants should have reduced emp time that can stack with wheelman. Also why not just reduce all loadout weapon damage to vehicles about 20%?

It also needs a lot of armor to survive kinetic bolt brs.
I have to admit that I was againts bring it back but those solutions are great but I have slight changes.
- The emp instead of not working it makes the falcon slower. (Harder to maneuver, disable the altitude lock) - Give it flares for lock on missiles (Thurst button and it needs time to recharge) - Like the spiraling out of control when it’s out of health - Increased armor

This is an old post and I don’t really want to read my whole thing right now to remember exactly what I said. But I definitely have said in previous threads that the uniform damage from bullet weapons is ridiculous, bullets would bounce off most vehicles in this game without doing any damage, basic bullets need to be nerfed and kinetic bullets actually be needed.

I really like your idea of the emp effects
What about strong shields like the needler hog(banshees ones are rather weak even though they are a great craft) and pilot chin gun like in the reach campaign? That could work, especially if they put Gauss turrets on the sides and possibly even had marines man the guns while there are no Spartans in the falcon.
