I mean, 343i is obviously about some immersion. You aim down the sight on the BR (which has mysteriously lost its scope) despite the fact that in Halo lore, Spartans always aim down sights by use of their HUD.
Know how into immersion 343i is? There’s a little camera used for zooming on weapons in Halo. That’s where your crosshair comes from canonically. In previous Halo games, the perspective of “aiming down the sights” would make absolutely no sense because the camera system is at the end of the gun - seeing the sights wouldn’t happen. In Halo 5, however, 343i has become so dedicated to immersion that they’ve retrofitted classic Halo weapons with camera systems that can somehow see behind their own lenses. Or perhaps the HUD just artificially paints your weapon on the screen when you zoom in for the sake of immersion.
