How To Make Infection Playable

343, do not look at the current population for Infection and think that it’s fine as it currently is.

As it currently stands Infection is little more than a stat boosting experience and a multiplayer version of Firefight Arcade. It lacks the very thing that it’s name implies: Survival. Humans are powerhouses. The Shotgun has a ridiculious kill range against unshielded targets and the Magnum is pocket Sniper, able to lock down half of most any map and be a OSK to boot. Meanwhile Zombies play as the cannon fodder. A direct confrontation with a Human is a surefire way back to the respawn screen. The only way for them to get kills is through hiding, trickery or outright backstabbing people. Top if off with Human’s innate tendency to pick the location with the least number of entrances or the one with ridiculous entrances and you get the most horrible and broken experience bar none. The only thing more disgusting than Infection’s default setup is the fact that it has more people playing it than Team Slayer. I hope to god that 343 makes some drastic changes for Infection so that it’s actually playable. Here are some of my suggestions.

-Scoring System for Humans not based of kills plus Objective modes.
-Shields for Zombies.
-Magnum Starts with limited ammo weapons placed around the map.
-Limited ammo.
-Maps tailor made for an Infection experience.

Now to explain them in detail.

-Scoring System for Humans not based of kills plus Objective modes.
It’s ridiculous. It’s honestly ridiculous. It’s ridiculous that Humans share the same goal as you: Kill your enemy. Why?Because they are the triple prestiged level 50 with all the weapon unlocks and your the rank 5 noob. Beyond even that Humans have a unlimited pool to earn points from while the Zombies can only get a maximum of eight points spread between the entire team. And that every time you kill one of the Humans you now have to share however many points are left with the new guy. Only that if you fail to kill the Human not only do you have to start again from the beginning but your overarching goal of winning the game is now made that much harder. And that each time you’re teamates fail you’re also pushed back farther and farther from winning. A scoring system for Humans based of kills leads to some of the most lopsided scores for games outside of Cosssta and crew rolling randoms in BTB. Instead score Humans based on time survived. Or use Objective gametypes spliced with the Infection affair to reward Humans. Collective scoring for Zombies. But anything than what we have now.

-Shields for Zombies.
Why? Because of the kill range on the Shotgun against unshielded targets and because of the Magnum. The Shotgun is practically a midrange rifle under Infection’s default settings. You can kill a Zombie with it before they ever get to lunge range with the Sword. So not only is a head to head confrontation at close range virtually unwinnable but even moving around the map to position yourself is virtually impossible at times thanks to the Magnum’s OSK and scope. Shields will allow Zombies to move around the map and pose a more serious threat in a head to head confrontation.

-Magnum Starts with limite ammo weapons placed around the map.
It’s not just Magnum Starts. It’s any Start that gives you a weapon and puts a better weapon on the map for you to go get. People could spawn with Spiker or Plasma Rifle and there could be an Assault Rifle on the map. Why? Because it’ll pull people out of their camping spots so they can go get it. Because it’ll help put a damper on people camping since they don’t have a OSK weapon anymore. Especially one with a ridiculous range.

-Limited Ammo.
Why?Because Humans get an unlimited pool of points to pull from while Zombies get a finite amount they must share between more and more people as the game progresses. It leads to lopsided scores. Insanely lopsided scores. 90 points for the guy who spawned as a Human all three rounds and camped the hardest. 3 points for the guy who was a Zombie all three rounds and got lucky. This should not happen.

-Maps tailor made for the Infection experience.
And I don’t mean maps built in Forge World. I mean maps like H3’s affair. Make it look like a world were a zombie plauge has overridden the world. But place the items strategically. Instead of using killzones to block off areas use sandbags and barricades. Place crates to block long LoS areas so that Zombies can advanced without being blown to peices.

Again: 343, do not look at the current population of Infection and think everything is alright. It’s not.

We’ve had six+ years of horribly broken and unfun Infection. I don’t want another three.

Halo 3 infection playlist was great because it had community made stuff. That is what Halo Reach needs for the infection playlist to be fun.

all they need to do is fix the magnum. no zombie shields or anything, that just brings up the kill and be killed at the same time issue MORE.

> all they need to do is fix the magnum. no zombie shields or anything, that just brings up the kill and be killed at the same time issue MORE.

Fix the Magnum?

And yes. Shields.

First game I played.

Alpha Zombies on The Cage.

In the first round there were two players with over a dozen kills and two players quit out in sheer frustration. The round timed out with Humans camping the top of the Three Room and camping the Two Story.

This is not how the game should be played.

Why didn’t you post this like a week ago when you made it in the Reach forum?

Also, agreed.

Forgot.

Also: These forums are an utter -Yoink- to try and post on.

If I go to the front page and try to go to the forums the site will not load, telling me I need to log in. The only place to log in is in one of the forums or the forum hub. Instead I have to type in the long and convoluted url to the forums directly to get said forum hub or forum so I can then log in.

Good suggestions but nothing mentioning the betrayal trolling. Easily fixed with turning by turning off FF. I have no idea why anyone would be against it in such a laid back playlist that has no competitive value. whatsoever.

Edit: Why did it create duplicate posts? I am going to get banned for something i didn’t intended to do :frowning:

Any reason for the 5 identical posts?

Above the Quote and Reply buttons and to the right of the word Permalink there’s a little pencil tool that’ll let you edit your posts.

the current population of infection is EXACTLY what we should be looking at.

infection is NOT the biggest problem, or even a problem that needs to be looked at.

the fact of the matter is, bungie created a game with other playlists in mind, whilst throwing ‘living dead’ for a little ‘spice of life’ playlist for some -other interests-, casual halo players. bungie made all of these armor abilities, and all of these mechanics, and at the end of the day, its LIVING DEAD that beats out EVERY SINGLE PLAYLIST in terms of population size, at ANY TIME DURING THE DAY.

that alone says how abysmal halo reach is in its current implementation. how about we fix the playlists that are actually struggling to stay even 1000 population behind living dead before we look at the lowest priority playlist in the entire game.

> infection is NOT… a problem that needs to be looked at.

Yes. It is.

Should other issues be addressed first over a playlist that’s designed just for kicks? Sure. But I’m not here to argue that Infection is more important than fixing other issues and problems. Just that Infection should be fixed.

Becasue it is a problem that I go into a playlist designed to be laid back, relaxed and more casual and either end up not playing it for whenever I’m made a Zombie or struggling to not snap my controller in half in a fit of rage.

QFT! Personally, I love infection as it is the best playlist.
