How to Make Halo MP Successful Again - Free

Let me explain why Halo MP its own entity (so it doesnt have to keep chaning as each game come out) and should be Free to Play (XBL Download)

Halo MP at the moment is nothing more than just any other FPS with multiplayer, nothing special, numbers growing smaller, etc. Halo 3 was a Xbox Live champion in its glory days and the next Halo seems to be an impossible task to recapture that level of success again. Its possible, but will take a lot of effort and time to do so.

Firstly, looking at popular Esport games such as LOL, DOTA2, SC2, what do they all have in common which Halo 3 also had? - A Competitive Drive + Skill based system). Halo should do what these other games do, make it free at the start, let you play casual and reach a “casual rank (total time played, e.g. 40 hours)” level, which they must do in order to play competitive. Doing this will drive a huge number of people to start playing again, and if they enjoy it, they can tell their friends which can get it for free and so on, this is purely to boost population again.

So after they play the game and want to get better, they can play the competitive playlist ( after reaching max on casual), they must go though lets say, 10 practice game to determine what league of play they are best suited to (bronze, silver, gold, platinum ) and within those leagues are levels (e.g. max 49)

Halo needs to go back to it roots, Halo was so successful in the past because it was unique, and what made it unique was also competitive. That is, even team spawn, weapon pick ups, fix spawns. That was Halo. Muliple Quiting should have a bigger deal, (e.g. quitting twice in a row is 10 min bad, quit again 20, so on (with competive having a bigger consequence)

How 343 will make money from new halo games? They will include all the new maps on the disc which other wise would have to be bought using ms points, anyway im tired of writing more, so tell me your thoughts and if if my ideas go well Ill re write it or make a video about it explaining everything in my head, too much for me to write now haha…

Halo is much more than a casual FPS and a casual FPS is much more than a F2P game.

Making F2P doesnt have to mean make it casual, Its just a way to get more casual people to play it, and from that get more people who play it and get interest to play competitive, I should be as open as possible, with a competitive drive

> Making F2P doesnt have to mean make it casual, Its just a way to get more casual people to play it, and from that get more people who play it and get interest to play competitive, I should be as open as possible, with a competitive drive

When you say “Its just a way to get more casual people to play it” look at Halo 4’s MP it looks pretty Casual to me and look how that turned out with its population. Also I assume when you say get interest in Competitive you mean get people interested in being Competitive, but with a MP that’s so Casual theirs no way you’ll get a reasonable number of people playing. I say they should split and make a playlist that’s Traditional and one that’s Casual.

What I meant was that Forge, Custom Games and the shear amount of gametypes that should be in the next Halo elevate it beyond your standard F2P game, and cost a lot of money. They won’t be able to do that properly if it’s F2P. That said, I think any and all map packs should be free (even if that means less of them). Not that I like to compare, but Killzone is doing it on the PS4 and it would solve the big DLC issue we have in Halo 4.

Agree, Xbox live gold was the cancer of Halo 4, once some one ran out another gaming source popped up, ether Steam or play station. It happened to me, once i ran out of gold and i was going to save up for more Steam said “Hay how about you spend all that money on new games and play them online here for free?”

Honestly, i was thinking Halo 5 should become free to Play as well, but i was more thinking it should become free to try, more thinking. I was thinking, You Can Play basically a quarter of the Game (25 %) without paying. You get to Play a quarter of the campaign, You get a quarter of the Multiplayer maps, You get full Access to forge, customs and Theater, but only with the maps You get in the F2T Edition. You Can only get to a certain Rank online before You reach a crédit cap, and have to purchase the Game of You want to continue. You Will get full multiplayer Access, but You Can only Play on the maps That the F2T Edition comes with. You Can only Play on certain playlists as well ex a F2T playlist, only people with That version of the Game Can go into That playlist. Also, achievements Will not Be locked, but You Can only unlock the achievements That You Can get, So say beating the first 3 missions, You Will unlock the achievements for those 3, but You cant get anymore, since to get the achievements for the test of the Game, You Will have to but the Game.

anyone else think This Is a good idea?

Pretty much what I was going to say.

Free2Play often leads to Pay2Win, so NO THANKS!!!

I’d rather have Halo cost 190 Dollars to play than have people paying money to gain cheap advantages, let’s stay on the safe side everyone.

Theres a big différence from free to Play, and free to try though.

I could see that working, but what about a few tweaks:

-Halo 5 comes out
-It cost 39.99 to buy
-It’s campaign only
-You buy an add on for multiplayer say for 29.99 (boom more profit for 343 total)
-Or you download multiplayer only on xbox live for 39.99 (boom incentive to buy full game)
-Bam 1 month after release a free to play version comes out
-Free 2 play version only has casual setting and 3 maps
-Integrate ranking system like OP said

I can’t say that I like that very much… All that would do is split the community and you’d essentially be paying the same price for the game either way. It would also be a giant pain in the -Yoink- to have to go buy several versions of a game just to get different features.

If I were to see this in real life, I’d likely start freaking out because this is pretty much a marketing scam that fooled my into paying extra for the game after I bought it on Xbox Live.

Playlist will be separated in to 2 categories with its own ranks and sub categories :

Social - ts+Slayer, Objective (VIP, CTF, 1flag, etc) BTB, Zombies, etc
Competitive - Slayer, BTB, 4 team MLG/esport

So let me break down my thoughts on what should be available:

Tier 1 Free: Halo Multiplayer Download - Social + Competitive + Theater only (with forge map but not forgable (can play multiplayer but not build on it) + leader boards in game + watch ingame live streams

Tier 2 $35usd: Halo Multipler Premium, same as halo multiplayer but get new maps included free (like wargame map pass)

Tier 3 $60usd: Halo 5/6: All of normal halo features (forge, firefight, campaign, etc) with Mulitiplayer Premium with extra mulitplayer skins or whatever.
