So just as a point of reference for people reading this:
I have played Halo 1-4 and Reach. I was disappointed in the direction that Halo 4 took the story in, so I wasn’t interested enough to buy and play Halo 5. I did, however watch a play through of it. That is where I’m drawing all of my information from. I do not read the books nor the comics. In this post I will be pointing out what I think in my opinion would make Halo Infinite the best Halo game possible and I would love to hear your opinions about it as well.
Storyline recommendations:
I hope I’m not the only person that really misses the original Master Chief-Cortana dynamic. I get that she’s evil now and everything, but I’d really like if she could somehow be “fixed”and returned to normal.
While it seems that the Covenant were “defeated” in Halo 5, I hope that they aren’t completely gone in Halo 6. If the Covenant are as minor of an enemy as they seem to be setting up to be in Halo 6, I would hope that 343 would diversify the Prometheans to fill that niche.
Ignoring the fact that Cortana is now evil and high tech forerunner defense machines are only about as dangerous to the player as basic Covenant infantry I do like the direction the story has taken overall.
Content:
I supported the inclusion of the Mantis in Halo 4. I though it was a unique and interesting new vehicle, however I do miss having a human flying vehicle like the Falcon or the Hornet. I don’t think Halo 5 had any human aerial vehicles, but I could be wrong. I would include the Hornet in the perfect Halo game, but would not get rid of the Mantis.
My next issue with content has to do with one of the reasons that I wasn’t a fan of Halo 4. It has to do with the Promethean enemies and Forerunner weapons. Before Halo 4, forerunners were regarded as an extinct spacefaring race that has literally built a superweapon array powerful enough to wipe out all life in the galaxy with each link in that array being an artificial structure the size of a planet with its own atmosphere and ecosystem, and with technology that can still be successfully operated thousands of years after its abandonment. Considering this we can see that forerunners are STILL leagues above Humanity in terms of technological capabilities. Despite this, Prometheans, artificial life built for defense, is no more a threat to the player than Covenant infantry. In Halo 5, a promethean Knight is no more intimidating than a hunter. I realize that this is likely not going to change in Halo 6, however if i had it my way, all Prometheans would never like Warden Eternal: big, powerful and intimidating. They just wouldn’t talk as much. The promethean weapons are my next problem: I admit that they’ve improved them since Halo 4, but I think they could still use some work. I can’t get over the fact that the scattershot is just a glowing shotgun, the light rifle is just a glowing DMR, and… I think you see my point. I actually like that they clearly tried to change them in Halo 5, but I don’t quite think they did enough. I’m not saying that promethean weapons should be completely overpowered, just that they should handle more differently from their human or Covenant counterparts than is currently the case.
Not sure if this was something they did in Halo 5 or not, but bring back Halo Reach’s Infected gamemode, not the Halo 4 one. The perfect Halo game would also include SWAT, and Griffball. CTF, and Slayer game modes go without saying.
Firefight. I loved firefight, mainly because of the customization that came with it. You were able to select which enemies you would fight and when. In the perfect Halo game you would be able to have firefight with the Covenant, The Flood, and the Prometheans. I would also suggest that firefight would include the option to add in allied NPC’s like marine/ODST squads or other Spartans.
It seems to me that they just keep improving upon forge mode. One suggestion i’d make is for players to be able to forge firefight maps or even make PVE game modes for custom maps. I think the playerbase would be able to do some pretty crazy stuff with that kind of freedom.
No more REQ packs plz. If you want to include micro transactions then please just allow the player to look at something, know what they’re buying, and buy it. Also just cosmetic; goes without saying.
Improve allied and enemy AI. It would be cool to feel like you’re actually fighting and defeating intelligent opponents rather than just fodder.
That’s pretty much all I’ve got. I’d be interested in hearing what you guys think!
