So ive stumbled on to an issue. When you EMP a warthog and are close, how can you instant kill the gunner? Im serious, i thought it was melee but the last two i have tried i just melee the warthog and it blows up killing the warthog passengers and myself. I know it wasn’t nades as i was the only player around at the time…
Im sure there is a quick one way kill but i cant think of what it was, even throwing the gunner out just chucks him on the ground, am i missing something lol
Never tried killing a gunner up close before (I like my vehicular enemies at a distance where possible). Not sure why its hittiing the vehicle instead of the gunner. Maybe because the gunner is at a higher position than the Warthog itself?
I just EMP the hog and hijack the gunner. He sometimes dies and even when he doesn’t I can just point-blank Gauss him in the butt while he’s sitting there stunned. Cue rage!
How to take out a gunner:
EMP Warthog, use a plasma grenade, and toss it at the gunner. It may be a suicide run, but i’ve down it quite a few times. Does wonders.
You can get close on maps like settler, as its tight and there is alot of cover for you. Generally i don’t carry plasma grenades… Man i seriously thought there was a instant kill when you’re that close. Im sure ive done it before. Maybe its a jump backsmack melee that i pulled off…

I feel like that would destroy the Warthog 9 times out of 10. It’s rare to encounter a Warthog within striking distance that hasn’t taken a reasonable amount of damage.

No… Maybe i dreamt it? Im sure there was a quick kill, either melee or ripping them out of the warthog. Guess there isnt one for any other vehicle, when you hijack. Maybe they had low shields and pulling them is like one melee strike…

You likely just hijacked the gunner when they had low shields. That would kill them. There’s no easy 1-hit kill trick however.
Your best best is explosives or power weapons. I’ll usually toss a couple of frags to flip the 'hog and then finish them off with a couple of BR bursts. Hijacks, melees etc work well too.
Try not to take on a gunner head on though, the machine gun turret’s shield will block most of your shots, making it a pain in the -Yoink- to kill them up close in a head on situation. Your best bet is to shoot them from afar while they’re distracted so that the shield isn’t facing you, or getting them out of that 'hog by any means necessary, such as flipping it with frags.
Personally, I just try to take out the Warthog and go for the double or triple kill.
Plasma blast followed by a plasma grenade or two to wrap it up.
I’ve seen it where after stunning the hog then flip it with a frag just to knock them out of their seats to finish them off, or just to knock the Hog out of play.
I could have sworn that I’ve seen people backsmack the gunner out of his spot on occasion.
I still wonder why people like BTB in Halo 4. It’s so goofy. It just doesn’t work. It’s most random you can get. The best BTB game was Halo Reach Hemorrhage. My all time favorite. Probably the best gametype in Halo period.
