I’ve heard some speculation that we might have both sprint and jetpack at all times rather than as separate armor abilities. This isn’t so much a thread about balance or anything, but rather a short thread on how they could work on one controller at the same time.
Sprint could stay exactly where it is currently on the armor ability button, or it could be placed on the left stick while you are walking, making walking crouching and sprinting (all forms of movement) all controlled with the same stick. Personally, of these, I think I would prefer leaving it on the AA button, but the other method could be used if there are new actions in the game that need a place on the controller.
As for jetpack, I believe that this one could easily be placed on the same button as jump. Simply press the button while you are in the air, whether after jumping or after falling off something, and it kicks in. This makes the most sense in my opinion because the jump button has no action mapped to it while airborne, which is exactly when you would use a jetpack.
(((Please note I’m not arguing for them to be in the game, simply stating how these could work on the same controller)))
FOR THE LAST TIME IT IS A ZERO G THRUSTER PACK!!! It isnt a jetpack like so many claim. My geuss is it is there for helping in low gravity situations and surviving larger falls.
Good idea. The only other way I would do it is have it somewhat like the weapon swap button and swap between sprint and JP. Although its not a jet pack, its a thruster used in zero grav enviroments. So unless you can go in space in most/all maps, I doubt that it will be incorporated into multiplayer.
I all for almost anything be an option for a pick up. I liked most equipment from Halo 3 and play custom games with the drop shield and jet packs placed on the map as pick ups. We do not need to spawn with any thing other than weapons and a frag or two. Jet packs have proven to dumb down game play. We do not need to and should not spawn with them.

That would be the best way to please everyone when it comes to fall damage. It should be there but you can kind of get around it.
> Why would they do this? That would negate map control and give people a chance to run from battle.
The way it was implemented in Reach maybe, but Halo 4 is a new game that will not act the same as Reach. Map control isn’t broken by jetpack UNLESS you are playing on a map not built to accommodate jetpacks. Not only that, but who says the jetpack will even allow you to go as high as it did in Reach? And with sptint, you’d only be able to run away as efficiently as you could in Halo games before Reach if everyone has sprint as a default ability. You guys assume that just because it didn’t work to your liking in one game that the next game will act exactly the same.
But as I said, I didn’t make this thread to argue support for them, but rather to talk about how they could work on the same controller.
> That could work too. I was thinking about switching between the two using the extra space on the d-pad.
It would be much more fluid the way I suggested. This would simply become a hassle in game.
> Thruster > Jetpack
Why does everyone do this? You know what we mean when we say jetpack, you don’t have to throw the thruster argument in there. Jetpack is what it was officially called in game, so it makes sense to refer to the next itteration of it as a jetpack unless it’s renamed. (although I do agree with you that a thruster would be good because it’s essentially a nerfed jetpack)
> I might actually play Halo 4 less than any other Halo game if the default game type spawns us all with sprint and jetpack. It would be mindless.
Again, you people assume it will be as bad as Reach. They have potential to be good if tweaked (though that is admittedly alot).
And again, I said that it was speculation, on how it could work on the controller. Not how the two armor abilities would/should/should not be in the game.
