How to Improve Future Events

An “Event Commendation System” where at the beginning of the event. Players are tasked with something pertaining to the event. In the case of SWAT:

  • Get X kills
  • Get X Headshots
  • Win X Matches
  • Accumulate X Points

“X” would be a number divisible by 10. So for the example above:

  • Get 150 kill
  • Get 100 Headshots
  • Win 20 Matches
  • Accumulate 20,000 Points

When a tenth of that number is achieved, player get the first of ten items. And then the next at 20% and so on:

  • 15 Kills = Tier 1 Unlock
  • 10 Headshots = Tier 1 Unlock
  • 2 Wins = Tier 1 Unlock
  • 2,000 Points = Tier 1 Unlock

Only one of these challenges would be used to complete the Event Pass, but any of them are fine. Doing it like this does a few things that I think will make Halo an overall healthier experience:

  1. It teaches new players how to play the game and what the most important objective is.
  2. It encourages players to do their best, and engage with the event.
  3. There would be absolutely no benefit to quitting beyond wanting a different map, which is understandable.
  4. Players can achieve these goals by any means they deem appropriate.
  5. Even your worst games would still provide some progress, unless you did absolutely nothing (the exception being if you lost).
  6. These numbers are high enough to represent a mild challenge for seasoned players, but low enough not to seem insurmountable to less skilled players. But most importantly, they can be done in a week with some effort.

Examples for other modes:
NOTE: Accumulating points and completing games apply to all of these.

Infection:

  1. Kill 150 zombies as a survivor.
  2. Kill 200 zombies OR survivors.
  3. Accumulate 30 minutes of total survivor time.

King of the Hill:

  1. Accumulate 30 minutes of Hill Occupation Time.
  2. Attack or Defend the Hill 80 times.
  3. Win 20 Matches.

Attrition:

  1. Kill 200 Players. Elimination are worth 2x points and Revives are worth 3x points.
  2. Win 20 Matches.

Fiesta:

  1. Kill 200 players.
  2. Win 20 matches.

Assault:

  1. Kill Bomb Carriers, Plant Bombs, or Disarm Bombs 50 times.

As for the actual challenge system, I’d rather it just be used to encourage exploring different playstyles and playlists and offer XP for Seasonal Battle Passes. While a proper Commendation system is used for unlocking specialty items in the game (ex: Get 1,000 BR kills to unlock a BR skin).

Really like these ideas, far better than requiring a game mode to appear which is luck based.

Or just have a chat with the Blizzard guys and get them to teach them how to make interesting events.

Overwatch lived of bringing back players every other month for the next exciting event.

So, first off, events should be unique and add something new to the game, while also being fun to play.

Let’s take Tenrai.
It lasted 6 weeks and is just the same mode over and over again. That got stale after the first 2 weeks.

What it should’ve been was, Fiesta entered the game in the Tenrai event and then is added to the game permanently after the first week.

  • The next week, the event adds a variant to the Fiesta playlist (Fiesta Oddball)

That mode is added to the Fiesta playlist permanently after the week is over.

  • Next week adds Fiesta CTF
  • Next week adds Fiesta Strongholds
  • Next week adds BtB Fiesta, to the BtB playlist.
  • The final week adds Fiesta Attrition (or Attrition Fiesta) to both the Attrition playlist and the Fiesta playlist.

Each week added something new to the game to keep the event and the game itself, fresh.
And, it is a great way to add new content to the game

Also, the events shouldn’t be challenge based, they should simply be like the seasonal BPs, you complete your weekly/daily challenges to get XP, you get a certain amount of XP, you get a level in the BP!

Another way to get players to hop on would be to have an “XP” weekend, where you get x2 the XP from challenges, or you could have a weekend where players earn credits from challenges.

There are lots of ways to make the game fresh and keep players coming back.

Let’s try to make it like that.

  • Nov 15—game launch
  • Nov 23-Nov 30—Fracture: Tenrai (Fiesta playlist added + event BP)
  • Dec 3-Dec 5—Double XP weekend
  • Dec 14-Dec 28—Winter Contingency event (Plasma grenades are snowballs and maps have holiday decorations + event BP)
  • Dec 31-Jan 2—Log in to get a free holiday themed armor piece
  • Jan 4-Jan 11—Fracture: Tenrai (Fiesta Oddball is added to the Fiesta playlist)
  • Jan 14-Jan 16—Get a free 100 credits for logging in during the weekend
  • Jan 18-Feb 1—Cyber Showdown event (Attrition playlist is added + Event BP)
    • Jan 21-23—shop sale
  • Feb 4-Feb 6—Double XP weekend
  • Feb 8-Feb 15—Fracture: Tenrai (Fiesta CTF is added)
  • Feb 22-March 1—Fracture: Tenrai (Fiesta Strongholds is added)
    • Feb 25-Feb 27—log in to get a free Samurai themed armor piece
  • March 8-March 22—Tactical Ops event (Tactical Slayer variants added + event BP)
    • March 11-13—gain 5 credits for every match played
  • March 29-April 5—Fracture Tenrai (Fiesta BtB is added)
  • April 12-April 19—“Eggs” are hidden around the maps, each containing a different prize. When you find an egg, you get the prize (credits/cosmetic item) after the match is over. (Easter event)
  • April 19-April 26—Fracture Tenrai (Fiesta Attrition/Attrition Fiesta is added)
  • April 29- May 1—Double XP weekend
  • May 3—Start of S2

So, there’s the calendar for what “should’ve” been Season 1.

Those are my thoughts

This is great!

I especially like there are opportunities to get store items on sale and get some free credits through grinding. Probably the biggest problem with the store is how closed of it is. There’s practically no way for F2P players to interact with it without dropping the cash equivalent of a decent size meal on the game. Funnily enough, if they gave out a few credits every now and then, people might actually spend some money because it’s kind of like getting a discount. I have MS Rewards and can basically amass enough points to buy about $10 worth of items in a month, or $5 have 2 weeks. It’s slow, but sometimes I see something a like, and decide, “Eh, it’s $10 dollars, but MS is paying for half.” And I get it and 343 makes $5 from me that they otherwise wouldn’t have. And they could do the same for other players if they weren’t so darn greedy.

Weekend events are also a good idea because 343 could base some challenges around those that aren’t so intensive since they would only be a 2 day event. Also double XP weekend would good to take some emphasis off of challenges.

And this is where a performance-based XP system comes in. I was mainly suggesting wins, headshots, kills, etc because it want to de-incentivize AFK-ing and encourage player to try to win.

I was just using what 343 will likely be calling “New Events”. I’d be much more down with Action Sack type stuff, but we’re going to need forge for that…

Absolutely. That’s what I really want to avoid: Sabotaging, AFK-ing, Quitting

Assuming I did the math right, there would be “something” happening in the game every 9 days.
That’s not too bad, especially when you take into account that is twice the length of a normal season

Ain’t that the truth. And when Tac Ops ends and they no-doubt will remove the variants, well have about 6 weeks of nothing except 2 more weeks of Tenrai which most people are probably done with.

I’m hoping they surprise us with a content drop sometime in April, but that’s very unlikely

Very. Lowkey the biggest content drop was when they fixed BTB. Since BTB is by far the most unique mode (mainly because of the maps).

I would really like a content drop with a new BtB/Arena map (either) and Attrition/Tac Slayer variants/Fiesta variants

BTB Attrition sounds REALLY interesting. My issue with Attrition when it was here was how clustered the maps were couple with the radar, it was almost impossible to sneak around. The goal of the game is to preserve your life will killing the enemy and I felt far too many fights ended in trades or with the victor coming out with a sliver of health and then is killed by a stray Plasma Pistol. BTB with no radar and maybe even a night filter to reduce visibility would make getting revives more dynamic. Also there would be more power weapons so you don’t have the situation where a team gets wiped immediately because they didn’t get rockets.

BtB Fiesta (+ variants)
BtB Attrition (+ Dodgeball)
BtB SWAT (+ variants)

Those would either make good playlists or flesh out the current BtB playlist quite nicely

Do you have any idea how long someone of my skill level would take to get 150 kills I don’t got that kind of time to waste I know they can improve it put challenges in the campaign that count towards the battle pass

These makes sense, but we all know that anything that makes sense won’t make it past the first level of being implemented.

343i bring back open lobbies & open communication.

How many kills do you get a game? I was using 10 kills per game as the baseline because:

  1. In a standard 50 game match, if everyone pulls there weight, all 4 players will have 12-13 kills.
  2. Sometimes you’ll just pop off for 20 kills and speed this challenge up.

So to answer your question, it would take a player, who gets on average 10 kills, 15 games to complete the pass in my model. That would be 3 days if they only played 5 games a day. Not bad for a week-long event.

If everyone was beating the event in a few hours, it wouldn’t be much of an event. It would be more like an instance.

I’m lucky if I get 2 or 3 per match also depends on the game mode this is why i wish i could get XP in campaign like in the MCC and are they ever gonna put a firefight in Halo Infinite

Do you play with friends who are better than you? If not than you should definitely get way more than 2-3 kills per match, no matter how bad you are (you are playing against others of equal skill)

I hope they add performance based XP for MP and then they can have challenges on the side to speed up progression.
Also challenges for PvE and then campaign would be good as well.

And yes, there is no doubt that they will add Firefight/Warzone, it is just a matter of when.
Those modes will probably be used as “THE SEASON’S MODE”, ya know what I mean? They will try to build up the hype of “Season 5: Firefight”!!!

Ok, here’s my ideas on a progression system (overhauled from the current) + how to make the events better (Imo)

Your score would be taken from your performance and directly transferred to XP ( 2000 score=2000 XP)

BP (seasonal/event) would be changed into a MCC style BP.
10 levels in a rank and you must unlock all of those 10 levels to advance.
Everything (every cosmetic in that season except from events) is added to the seasonal BP.

Each level in a BP (seasonal/event) would cost 2k XP to unlock. You can only progress down one pass at a time, whether it be seasonal or an event pass.
This being said, event passes remain forever.

To circumvent everything in the game being available for free, the grind is insane, worse than H5s 152 grind.
It will be worse the later you enter into the game, but even those who have been here from the start will never have everything in the game.

Since everything is free, why would people pay money? Here is why.
Instead of a premium BP, people can instead buy a “premium” account.

  • 1 season account=x2 XP gain for 1 season ($10)

  • 2 season account=x2 XP gain for 2 season’s ($15)

(Note, with my above idea for a revised seasonal calendar, on double XP weekends, premium owners would get x4 XP)

And so on and so on.

Or you could buy the entire season for $40 (per season)

On top of this, after an event is “over” the event pass remains in the game, but it also goes into the store.
Meaning, you can either grind out the event for free, or, you can buy whatever you want from it from the store.

Now, to make events more interesting.

Events (ideally) would add brand new gamemodes to the game and then keep them in permanently, or add them to a rotating pool of modes, along with other things done that fit the theme of the event

So, for the Winter Contingency event

Winter Contingency

Plasma grenades are snowballs and maps have holiday decorations

“Snowball Fight” is a mode where players are armed only with plasma grenades and must hit other players. Standard Team Slayer rules

(After event finishes, Snowball fight is added to custom games and rotates in for 1 week out of the month)

Cyber Showdown

Attrition mode is added

Maps have futuristic cyberpunk-like decorations.

(definitely the weakest event but still interesting nonetheless)
(Attrition leaves after event ends and rotates in once per month like Snowball fight.
2 weeks out of the month now have special gamemodes)

Tactical Ops

“HARDCORE SWAT” Players are dropped into a new map, dark lighting and closed.
10v10 format
Players are armed with a new weapon, a full-auto AR (somewhere between the BR, DMR, and AR)
Shields are dropped for all players and the health is reduced.
Teams are split into defenders/attackers
Attackers must reach the bomb/hostage before the time runs out, defenders must prevent them.

(This is meant to play out more like a true “SWAT” mode)
(after event ends, “HARDCORE SWAT” is added to the rotating playlist pool)

Fracture: Tenrai

Since we have gotten 6 weeks of Tenrai (will get) each week should add something new (variant)

First week= Fiesta added
Second week= Fiesta: Oddball
Third week= Fiesta: CTF
Fourth week= Fiesta: Strongholds
Fifth week= Fiesta: Attrition
Sixth week= Fiesta: BtB

(all modes go into their respective playlists [attrition goes into attrition and BtB goes into BtB but both also go into the Fiesta playlist] )
