I have to say, I really like the idea of “rarity” when it comes to unlocking armor and customizable aspects of my Spartan. However, with the current REQ system it takes no “achievement” of any kind to wear the armor you get through req packs. Although not likely, you could have a sr10 Spartan with full legendary armor from sheer luck. I think the simple solution to this issue, that will increase the longevity of the game is to, at the very least, require a certain SR rank to “wear” the armor you unlock.
For example, say at SR 15 you get lucky and unlock a piece of legendary Mark VI armor from a gold req pack. Instead of being able to wear it right away, that armor could require you to be at SR 100 before you can use it. This system would be similar to the one used in reach where you would have to at least have a certain amount of experience under your belt before using the rarest unlockables. And this would also save someone from the scenario of unlocking their favorite armor pieces at low levels and then being bored with the game because they feel they have no more reason to play to unlock that “high level” piece of armor (similar to the skull helmet in reach). You would also remove the buy to win ability with these armor pieces because even if you purchase the req packs and unlock everything, you would still have to hit a certain rank to use them.
No I don’t agree with that. To me it just wouldn’t work with this system. Put level requirements on RNG is just silly and can become way too frustrating. What I want most is armor and helms from REQ’s and I barely seem to get them. I’d be more frustrated if I got one and couldn’t use it until another 50 hours of playtime.
All armor is the same, except cosmetically. You want to divide the community between the haves, and the havenots, go play Destiny. Bungie loves division.

In a solid system I would argue it should require more playtime to unlock “legendary” items anyways. In any RPG game where you have weapons or armor drop with a certain rarity, it requires a certain level to use it (I.e more playtime). I don’t want to be able to unlock the best stuff at the very beginning. I want to actually work for it and earn it.
I think that would only cause more problems. People buy REQ packs with money because they don’t have the luxury and free time to grind them oit. Would rub a lot of people the wrong way and be redundant if they paid for a pack only to get something they had to grind to be able to use.
It’s a faulty system in general.
I like it for the weapons and such that you can then use in Warzone, but the armor and other cosmetic stuff?
Reach did it better with allowing the player to pick and choose what they wanted to unlock and wear as opposed to this RNG system that has you wearing whatever it is you unlocked regardless of if you even wanted it.
Personally, I would like to deck myself out in the full Foehammer gear.
Will I be able to? No, not unless I win the lottery of REQ pack’s and get both the helm and armor randomly.
That’s just… no.
RNG based reward for a game like this is just dumb.
If I wanted RNG based rewards, I would go play Destiny.
I agree with you in that I think reach was a much better system for armor unlocks. This was simply an idea I believed would at least be possible to implement and add some longevity to the game, although this option still has obvious flaws.
If I am thinking this clearly, if we went with the system you have just describe, then there would be no point in the REQ system. If unlocks were determined by rank and not by chance, I think that would be boring in my opinion because everything would already be pre-determined. You already know want to expect and want to get and I think that is boring and at this point maybe a little cliche since most fps games already do this.
I think there would have to be a generic base armor unlocked at certain ranks and then rarer versions of said armor could then be unlocked through the req packs. Like I said, you couldn’t make it perfect because the req system has a few too many flaws, but I think it would add more depth.
I think the whole system of randomly unlocking armor is the problem. Like you said, it lacks a sense of achievement. When you see someone sporting badass armor, it doesn’t mean they did anything special to deserve or earn it, they just got lucky. I personally enjoyed the Reach system of earning and saving up credits to buy whatever pieces you like. That made me feel like I was working toward something. Now if there’s an armor set I like, I just think to myself, “oh well, maybe one day I’ll get lucky.”
due to the fact that the armor unlocks are all RNG based that would be a silly notion of getting people to play this game. If I unlock the armor early so what. Why not let me wear it right away.
