How to get our voice heard in development

For me, 2013 started great, because Frankie acknowledged that 343 had dropped the ball in their communication with the community. Finally I thought, because 343 and the community together can make Halo 4 the best Halo game yet.

And even though some changes have been announced, I feel 343 hasn’t taken on the core problem: the communication with the community. In the first bulletin Frankie said:

“You guys pay for the privilege of playing our game, and you have every right to have a voice in its development.”

We all want this and apparently 343 wants this too. The Waypoint forums are too chaotic for good communication. That’s why I’ve created Gamersuggestions, a simple website where you can post your suggestions to improve Halo 4 and the community will rank them using a like/dislike system. 343 can then respond on popular suggestions and accept them or explain why they reject them.
I think it will benefit the community if we just know what 343 is working on and which things 343 will not change (they might have very valid reasons to reject certain suggestions, but why not share them?).

If we get behind this with enough Halo members, 343 will surely look at our ideas and respond to issues that have been raised since the release! What do you guys think?

All it really takes is for them to listen

> All it really takes is for them to listen

Listening is not enough, they should communicate better. For all we know, the next TU will fix all the issues we’ve been complaining about. But since we don’t know what they will change, the halo 4 population still declines.

They should have a sticky thread where they post what they’re up to game wise. They shouldn’t have to reply to every post. Just that one thread.

The 343 members who actually call the shots and control the do’s and don’t’s on the development team should be on these forums readiing and following topics every single day.

The problem is that there are just too many topics at Waypoint. Besides it is too much work to figure out which suggestions have the most support. That’s why I’ve added a simple voting system at Gamersuggestions, so that the suggestions are ranked and the devs can see in the blink of an eye which changes we want.

Thanks. It will only work with enough Halo fans behind this, so feel free to share it with others :).

So… it’s a petition site?

Good luck - they never look at petitions. The crowd mind can rarely come up with fully wrought ideas.

They don’t listen to your ideas for legal reasons.

I don’t think that guy has much pull to be honest. He’s a MS employee and they’re the ones calling the shots, not 343.

That’s just how they keep their butts covered so you can’t sue them for “stealing” your idea.

It’s not possible to be heard by 343, they’re still busy celebrating this C rated game though they have yet to update it and fix jack for nothing… worst dev

I disagree, the problem is that the community has not spoken with one voice. The Mass Effect 3 fans gathered in one place and Bioware changed the ending because of that.

We can’t do that here, this forum has become a chaotic mess.

Yes, i remember the whole Mass Effect 3 ending issue, it was huge and also not just on one website. The problem is too many voices in one location can cause a blur effect, and halt any future issues because nothing has focus.Yes most people want the same thing, but there are people who dont want a said thing changed. Most notably the DMR and Boltshot. The biggest voice is the custom games and forge options, so that got 343’s attention faster.

All we can do is hope for a better future with Halo 5, right now Halo 4 is in utter chaos.TU’s may help small issues, but issues such as framerates and lag will only be fixed with a new console and new game.

I highly doubt that they’ll look there.

Think about it. Bungie claimed that Halo was the community’s game, while 343i claims that it’s ¨their game¨.

Well in the same bulletin frankie said: “but we think of the community as a direct and democratic extension of the team and, indeed, of the development process.”

So I think Gamersuggestions can do a great job in being that extension. Of course not all popular ideas will be useful, but 343 makes the decision which suggestions should be implemented.

Rigest is right, communication is what’s important. If you want something that, for some reason or another, is not possible, wouldn’t you rather someone (someone who designs games professionally) explain why it might not be possible? I’d rather have a conversation with the developers than just yell stuff at them…

lol, I remember that popping up back in 95. But MS is right.

I agree. A lot of people are angry that 343 doesn’t listen to them. I think they do listen, but they need to interact with the community more.
