By not giving all the funds you earn from it away as cash prizes for the professionals, and instead using the funds to add content, and fix, and maintain your games. It is your right to spend that money how ever you like, but the way spent it is incrdibly irresponsible, and has deterred me from ever buying a req pack again.
Not all REQ packs funds are given as cash prizes though, only a portion of sales were given to teams / part of the prize pool

Any amount given to them is irresponsible. They should have found a sponcer who would have funded the prize pool, not use the money their fan base dug out of thier own pockets to purchasethe packs, that money should only be used for enhacing their games.
How do you know that the money from pack sales isn’t directed towards the updates for the game? 343 hasn’t released any statistics regarding where that money goes. I’m fairly certain that what we do know is limited to that it does go into HCS and related competitions and 343 themselves. Beyond that, it could be going into paychecks, side projects, game development, or whatever else 343 can think of.
And how is using those funds to back e-Sports an irresponsible way of spending it? For 343 Industries and Microsoft, it’s a method of promoting their game, so, really, not that irresponsible. Maybe it is a niche thing, but it’s pretty much a form of advertisement.
