How to get films from my Xbox to my Computer

I recently started working on my first machinima, but I don’t have a capture card or Bungie.net render minutes, so I was wondering how I get my films to my computer to edit them.

The only way to get big files/full games right now is to buy a Capture Card, there is no way other than Bungie Render Minutes which support for will finish soon.

You could buy a cheap capture card like a Dazzle and not rush to a Happauge HD PVR.

Yeah unfortunately those are the only two options right now. Microsoft filed for a patent that many allows them to build a capture card into their next generation console.

Depending on what you’re working on there are benefits to the capture card vs. render minutes. If you’re doing something that involves a lot of short takes, or you want it in HD I suggest a cap card. HD will run you 5x more with render minutes. If you are just stitching together a bunch of clips for a montage, I would record the clips exactly how you want them in theater mode, then use render minutes.

I heard there’s a way to plug a video camera into TV and record the film off of that, is there any truth to that?

Also I just thought of this but I don’t know if will work, but if I insert a blank disk into my Xbox and transfer the files onto the disk (from the memory setting) would I be able to get them onto my computer?

Really?

Mind linking me to an article on this, sounds interesting!

I would buy the next XBox immediately if that happened.

For Moa:
Article

Patent Abstract:

> A digital video recorder (DVR) application running alongside a television client component allows users to record media content on the gaming console. The DVR application also integrates itself with the console menu. Once integrated, users can record media content while playing games. Alternatively, users can record content when the gaming console is turned off. The recorded content can include television programming, gaming experience (whether local or online), music, DVDs, and so on. When in the recording state, users can also switch between various other media modes, whether gaming, television, and so on.

I interpreted that as essentially a capture card built into the xbox. Knowing microsoft they’ll probably scrap it before release anyway. I think it would be a sweet feature, because everybody wants to record gameplay these days so they can share it. It only makes sense to include it with the console. Though we have to make sure SOPA doesn’t pass first.
