I would say that the fastest way is to just do the regular daily and weekly challenges.
it would probably firefight matchmaking but if you dont like that then just do big team battle
Pretty much just do firefight,but I warn you…it does get very boring very quickly

Work towards commendations. Once you get higher in rank you earn more cR per game.

I have said this a 100 times before. Now that custom challenges are gone the quickest and best credit payout is in Grifball.
But there is a trick to maximize the credit payout.
You must be on the winning team and plant your 3 bombs in sudden death.
Doing this will net you a huge Performance Bonus and Game Complete bonus.
As an Inheritor if I did this I would net about 19,000 to 22,000 credits for one game. Tell me what else gives you that many credits for a 13.5 min investment of your time in Reach. 4 mins per round for 3 rounds plus 30sec sudden death.
Failing that then do Firefight but that is rife with really poor connections due to the matchmaking protocols it uses, AFKers, and if the host quits then everyone gets recorded as a quitter and that leads to quit bans.
The trick to grifball is just making the game last as long as possible. Like I said before, play firefight. Grifball is good too though.

You don’t need an 8 person lobby to get huge credit payouts in Grifball. Just you and a friend who can control the bomb and make sure it is scored in Sudden death.
This is not cheating or boosting in any way and will not get you a ban.
People who go and commendation boost in Grifball with full parties of guest accounts will usually get picked up buy the banhammer as their guest accounts get zero kills and at the very worst all they get is a temporary credit ban. And rightly so too.
try to do long grifball games but that’s kind of cheap. Firefight is long but you get decent cR. No fast way though it’s designed to keep you
playing.
