How to Get Champion in FFA (Text/Video) Guide

Hey there,
My name is Mike (Mtashed) Tash, and I want to help you improve…so let’s begin.

Video
If you don’t feel like reading, here is a video to listen to instead:

Spawns
One of the biggest things to remember when playing FFA is the spawns are based on players in an area, as well as deterrents such as grenade activity…
If you throw a grenade at an area, there is a good chance nobody will spawn there for a few seconds.
What this causes however, is issues where players will spawn directly behind you at times, if you leave a designated spawn area’s “lock down zone”.
For example. If I am sitting in an area locking down a spawn, I am safe from having anyone spawn beside me. If I move out of it however, and all the other spawns are deemed “unsuitable”, the player will now respawn directly in the area I just left.
This causes multiple issues with being shot from behind and is one of the primary reasons i suggest not to…

Chase
Good god…do not chase. If you chase you are going to rip your hair out in FFA. One of the reason is because of the spawning issues, and being shot from behind…
But also because 7 other players are trying to shoot you in the face on very small maps. If you chase a kill around a corner, be ready to have it first stolen, then to be gang banged by 3 different people all flooding into the area.
So if you can’t chase, then you need to do the alternative…
Holding Down Areas
By sitting in spawns you remove the threat of uncounterable engagements, and can be the guy picking off “1 shot” enemies entering your area.
Is it campy? Yes.
Will it win you games? Yes…most of the time.
Holding down areas is the easiest way to win FFA while maintaining a high KD ratio, simply because you have limited threats and risky engagements.
That being said, you may still lose to the guy who goes 25K-33D due to him trading kills at a faster rate

Power
Power weapon / “buff” control is huge in FFA. However, it is also the hardest to do. I highly recommend rotating to safe areas 10-20 seconds before rockets spawn, and simply waiting for traffic to enter the area. Clean up some kills before moving in, as trying to run in and grab rockets without dying will work about 1/20 times.
Over shield spawns a few seconds after rockets and fuel rod cannon depending when over shield was last picked up. Use the rocket timer to anticipate the overshield if you simply can’t contest rockets.
As for snipers… If you get them, and can move them to a safe area…GO FOR IT! But focus on rockets / over shield due to how strong they are in FFA.

Gun Skill
You need to master the Pistol.
Assault rifle has a place in this world, but Pistol should be your go to for 80% of your engagements.
If you aren’t getting a 5-7 shot kill with pistol in the majority of your duels, you may need to back out of FFA… I recommend running customs with friends and dueling as much as possible to improve, as if you can’t out duel opponents, you can’t win FFA. Even if you manage to 9 shot someone and get a kill, you will be left with zero health, and will be picked off one second after.
ALSO! GET THE BR / DMR - They are like mini power weapons if you can control them and pick off enemies at a distance. More damage, more range, less risk… perfect for free for alls!

Tilt
FFA is one of the easiest game modes to go on “Tilt”
(the feeling of being behind, losing, and the over all frustration with the game you are playing when not performing)
You need to recognize you won’t win ever game, and in many cases, will get last to “weaker” opponents.
FFA has a massive amount of luck involved, and you need to accept it.
Don’t get frustrated, play smart, and you will grow in CSR in no time.

END
I hope you enjoyed this guide! I would love feedback, and if the sub reddit is interested in more.
Have a great day everyone,
Mtashed

Thanks, good info! I made the mistake of doing some FFA while trying to learn the new maps. Terrible idea when you’re also not too good yet.

Thanks for this except FFA stinks at the moment considering 8 players is way to many.

We need more strategy guides Mike!
But seriously though love all your work I’ve been watching you on YouTube since your Destiny guides on Crota’s End. I know you get a lot of hate on your YouTube when you do Halo stuff but honestly I’d love to see more gameplay and guides and would really love if you would do a Tips With Tash series where you critique people’s Halo gameplays they send you. Keep up the awesome work man.

Would any of these tips be different now with 6 players in ffa? Want to improve my consistency in ffa!

I’m only platinum so i might be wrong but i’d say this strategy of staying in the back and waiting with pistol to clean guys might have changed? I think it’s difficult to get a lot of kills like that and we can see that people like Vetoed on his video never or rarely uses magnum?
In team slayer i think that precision gun are more efficient and AR a bit less than in FFA, because we are less close to the other players?

What do you guys think?

Hey man I see you are new and welcome! On these forums the like to keep necroposting to a minimum. Please be aware of the dates in these threads. This was started over a year ago, with the last post back in February. It’s a great topic, but next time if you don’t see a more recent thread then just start one of your own.

Good luck! Glad you made it to Waypoint. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Sorry Dax ! I thought this post was a kind of “reference” as its the only complete guide i found and its also the one i found every time from google.
I’ll be looking for more recent post anyway, or start a new one next time  Thanks for welcoming me!

Hey no problem. You can always link that guide or anything else you find helpful and want to share. Right now since you’re a low forum rank you can’t actually post clickable links, but someone usually steps in and helps out with. Finally, sometimes, not always, it helps to use the Waypoint search bar. It might bring up more recent posts.

Look forward to reading your first thread!

Points taken, I made a thread not too long ago about how hard is it to get a Champ in FFA. If I start early next season, I might be able to get it. Good thread, I’ll watch vid later.
