So I’ve been playing for about a month and 10 days now I feel like I’m not getting any better… what’s the best way to get better is it simply by just playing? I watch videos try to learn map call outs and everything me and my friend have just started doing 1v1 in a octagon only pistols than only no scope snipers for about 30 mins each starting today. You think that will get us better with reaction time and getting better overall? Any tips or ways to get better are more than welcome. My overall goal is to get good enough to play competitively eventually.
Custom games where you can learn to use each weapon individually might be a good start.
If you’re going for competitive, might want to fireteam up and practice the teamwork and communication side of it.
You haven’t played the campaign. I recommend you do that on legendary. Good practice.
Good advice from the two above OP. I personally would be down to play either co-op campaign or online in a fireteam. Add me, I like helping others improve.

Make sure you connect your controller to the xbox to minimise input lag
Buy a gaming monitor with a low response time
Fast internet helps out massively
Play with a team that communicates
Get a headset
Elite/scuff controller
I suggest going into theatre mode and watching how enemy players manage to get kills on you. From there, you can adjust your play style so you don’t repeat the same mistakes.

After this find a team, or a friend to grind the game continually until you start to see results. Over time you will see progressive jumps in skill and knowledge of the game. Head to twitch to watch pro players with their routes, positioning, etc.

In a team game, 1v1 isn’t as important as you think. Far to many people focus on their shot in stead of thinking outside the box.
Think about it: Is better that I trade in a 1v1 which will cause a stalemate? Or would it be better for me to be alive and help a teammate push will I give them cover/distract, but knowing there’s a guy close to you and actually trusting you teammates to help you out (It takes a LOT of time to build that type of trust because 95% of the community doesn’t think like this, but notice how the top guys do it all the time)?
You want to start to think about how your opponent is playing. Do they challenge all the time? Do they jump after the 4 shot? Should I be challenging when I am 1 shot, or instead should I set up a trap to allow a teammate to kill the guy I was shooting by predicting where he will go/ rushes me? Simple fundamentals. Other things you can ask yourself: am I strafing the EXACT same way? IF you are you need to chance that asap, smart players will download your strafe and ANNHILATE you for that. That’s what the best of the best have been doing since hce. As soon as I see how someone strafes and I notice they don’t change, it’s GG, I have just enough information to know when they will thrusters, which direction, when they jump (etc) and I will literally make a “counter strafe.”
H5 the aiming/ shooting is very simple, so it all comes down to mind games. Certain players are better at certain playlist than other players. If you watch how the top players play, you will see that, they don’t challenge ever single person they see/ don’t shoot a person they see instantly. They want to guarantee the kill and give the least amount of information about where their team is pushing/setting up. For example, sometimes, it’s better to let 4 guys run past you, call out to your teammates, who then have to think “ok they are over there, so teammate 1 should move over here, while 2 and 3 have the other ‘out options’ covered so that we maximize the kills and minimize losses.” Majority, and I mean about 95% of the halo community INSANTLY shoot a guy the moment they see someone, which is NOT the best options, especially if you are the ONLY one alive.
I hope these help you out.

No it doesn’t, campaign is totally different. It can give you a grip on how to use the weapons and shoot, but playing against the computer is very different to playing against humans.

No offense, but looking at your stats I’d say that the best advice would be to forget playing as a pro. Your highest skill is Plat 1, whereas pros are high level Onyx and Champions. You literally wouldn’t stand a chance against those guys. We’d all love to play Halo and earn money from it, but unfortunately that’s just not possible for the vast majority of us.
But if you wish to keep trying, then just play matchmaking over and over, find good team mates, learn the weapon timings, OS and camo timings, map callouts, etc. Learn matchmaking inside out and practice several hours a day for months on end.
Always shoot from the hip. Never use smart-link unless its a sniper or if you opponent is really far off (like from armory to armory). Shooting from the hip makes you way more accurate especially with the Magnum. The only other thing to do is learn the maps exceptionally well; to the point where you can outmaneuver and flank you opponents. There are several other tricks that got me ranked pretty high, but I can’t type them all out here. However a few are: thrust towards grenades, you can clamber up vehicles before they splat you, splinters will save you more times than not, NEVER use just BR (use Magnum and all powers no matter what they are), don’t chase people (you will die every time. Just let them go, and find someone else), and more. You’ll just learn as you go.

In a less offensive way I agree with this guy lol. You will never be a pro unless you have a really consistently good team. Onyx and Champ will never happen. Plus the ranking sys is broken anyways. I can’t tell you how many time I’ve seen silver and gold players destroy Onyx players.
Anyways, Diamond is an option. Diamond is usually the best of the best solo players so… try for that. It’s still hard though. I was almost Onyx one time and intentionally dropped back to diamond 1 because I knew it would be too hard.
The Halo 5 ranking sys is designed to show a players skill as a team, not as an individual. Lower ranked guys can be better than Champion players a lot of the time because they had no team.

it’s team based skill ranks not indivudal… no one will get onyx or higher if he plays with some randoms. anyone however who has a team available can be onyx or higher without massive individual skill

Actually it’s part based on individual skill. A good player will carry the team and their rank will rise as a result. If you put an Onyx player into Gold, they’ll be getting scores like 25-5 all the time. They’ll rapidly rise through Gold and Plat, slower though Diamond and eventually hit Onyx again.
Also, I know Onyx players that regularly play solo, so it’s nonsense that you have to have a team to hit that rank. And I have personal experience of hitting Diamond. I was placed in Gold each month, carried the team and rose through the ranks. Diamond is definitely not the best of the solo players though, there are much better players than me! You have to remember that Platinum is the champions of Gold, Diamond is the champions of Platinum etc, there is a noticeable skill gap between each division.

Sorry but as I said I wasn’t trying to be offensive. Just stating a fact that Onyx should really be the absolute minimum level for anyone who wants to play professionally. I’m not flaming the OP, but have to point this out as we’re talking about skill here.
The ranking system isn’t broken, the reason you’ve seen lower players destroy higher ones is due to smurf accounts. Allowing people to put unlimited accounts on the Xbox One is where the flaw lies. It allows people to artificially mess with their rank, which shouldn’t be allowed on a competitive game.
OP Halo is not only getting good at aming and dodging shots, which is what the octagon will do for you. Campaign will only get you better learning the mechanics of the spartan but since you have played for more than a month now I guess you got that already. Try to practice map control, controlling enemy spawns, timing power weapons and communication with your team (always wear a mic and ask for your team to do so as well). Go to this link https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBp0EHNlPIzMM5l7E0V7nvw this is the channel of the coach of the pro team EG, best coach IMO. There you can learn all that and more, his commentary on the videos is really helpful on all those points.
no scoping is not going to get you better, try zooming in for headshots instead.
