Okay, some of you know this already but I see a lot of complaints so I’ll put it out there. It really shouldn’t come as a surprise at this point but to always get uncommon and rare when doing silver is to unlock all the commons first. This is done via bronze packs. They are a measly 1250 points (sources claim 75-80% chance for a permanent unlock, pretty good odds). That is one game of Assault (usually done within 6 minutes, but never longer than 18 minutes). Sell everything you get unless there’s something you think you’ll need. That way you more or less get half the pack back. It didn’t take long until all of my commons were unlocked (except emblems but that doesn’t matter as there’s not many on this tier).
Now with all the commons out of the way you can move on to silver packs and you are guaranteed uncommon and rare unlocks. There is a loooooooooot of unlocks here so you’ll have to be patient. There are a lot of DMRs at rare so you’ll get one pretty fast.
The same goes with golds. If you want guaranteed goodiness out of your gold packs get all of the uncommon and rares out of the way. I am almost there now and I can’t stress enough how important warzone assault is to fast unlocks. One game is on average 1300 req points. 8 games will be 10400 points. Sell everything you won’t use and use RP boosts (not the win ones, better off selling them as it is hard to guarantee a victory). On average it takes an hour to farm 10k points. Sometimes as fast as 40 minutes. I farmed 50k points in five hours the other day.
Assault is kind of chaotic so a lot of fun can be had here. Crazy stuff happen constantly. Just don’t focus too much on your score or K/D. Focus on the points. Did your team lose within six minutes? Still gets you 1300 req points. Smile and move on to the next game!
Happy unlocks!
I agree, just be patient and be smart when buying packs. Don’t go to Gold until all your common/uncommon/rare reqs are done.
Pro Hint
You will know it is time to move onto Gold packs when you start receiving two 1500 REQ point cards upon opening a silver pack.
I really want to do some digging into the chance of a permanent into Bronze packs, because I’ve now heard everything from 50% to 80%.
I tried it out three times. First time 7/10 was permanent. The second time 6/10. The third 8/10. Not enough data to establish statistical certainty for sure but I’ve seen a lot of of people claiming 75%. Still better than going silver right away. There’s 6 DMRs at rare. Mixing common unlocks into your silver packs will greatly reduce the chance of getting a DMR and that is what I think many of you have stumbled upon.
As I continue to say, I only buy Gold packs . Thats all I ever buy. and I got my req 6 DMR at level 33 and a req 8 rare and legendary DMRs at level 34. I think its misleading to say buy silvers until you get all the commons out of the way. Who cares about commons anyway. they are common. And rares are not really rare. I get rares almost every time I open a gold pack.
Buying only gold packs will, for most people, be a waste of time and req points as you have a higher probability to unlock anything but an ultra rare or legendary. If you want consistency in your unlocks then you work your way up.
Bronze unlocks common only. Silver unlocks common to rare. Gold unlocks uncommon to legendary.
There are:
136 common unlocks
188 uncommon
312 rare
200 ultra rare
178 legendary
Going for gold only means that you are a lot more likely to get something uncommon or rare than something ultra or legendary. Then we have unknown percentages. Unlocking everything prior to ultra and legendary means you’ll get nothing but ultra and legendary permanent unlocks once you start with golds.

But that’s exactly why people start with silvers. You knock out all the commons-rare so that when you spend 10k on a gold pack, you ONLY get the high unlocks instead of getting common-rares. Ensuring more bang for your buck.

Still smarter to get all the commons out of the way first (which goes really fast) which ensures only uncommon to rare unlocks from silver. Effectively making the time to complete your unlocks between common to rare faster than buying only silver.
lol the only person I have seen that actually started on bronze packs and understands it. Bravo. You will definitely get that DMR in no time now.
If you refer to me I’ve already got four.
Step 1 Buy silver pack
Step 2 repeat step 1 if no DMR found
If DMR found play Warzone
Its so simple.

Nice! LOL Well deserved for your patience. Seriously
My only DMRs are Req level 8. :\

Thank you! I will continue to do this until I’ve unlocked the scanner helmet. It was my fav helmet in Halo 4 and once I get that I probably won’t bother farming for REQ points any longer. But I know how it goes with RNG so I’ll probably continue for a while still. :3
In all honesty though. I prefer a Longshot or Sentinel BR over a DMR.
This is something I wish I would’ve known from the beginning.

If they use the same kind of system for Halo 6 you know what to do!
Wouldn’t bother with Bronze. At least with silver you get good cards to actually use in Warzone and if it’s a 75% chance for a permanent you are getting 3 common unlocks per 5000 credits rather than 2 common to rares if you were to buy silver.

Mathematically, working your way up is the way to go. And at common there are a few unlocks that you can actually use very early in the game that can give you an edge. Storm rifle and bolt shot beats an AR user easily. Railguns and plasma pistol to counter low-tier vehicles. Oni Scout Warthog for some splattering. Or any basic scouthog is even better since they’re level 1. The chaingun turret is great if you can put it to use.
Having 10k of req points results in 8 bronze. Selling everything off in 8 bronze packs would return 4200 reqs. That means three more bronze with 450 points over. Selling what is in those three bronze will add another 1800 points leaving you at 2250. One more pack, sell the contents and voila. Another pack. That is 13 bronze total with a 75% unlock chance. 9-10 permanent unlocks. Two silvers for the 10k would result in four permanent unlocks that might be common if you skip bronze.
