The people that have been waiting for Halo 2 since Microsoft stripped it away from Xbox Live, thereby forcing a number of people to buy a new system and game to play what was paid for in 2005 and on, should be catered to. Especially since Microsoft/343 have decided to give it back soggy and spoiled. Die hard Halo 3 and Halo 4 fans can still play multiplayer on Xbox Live with many playlists to choose from in their respective games, but these games should have the least ammount of options. This doesnt mean that Halo 3 and Halo 4 are inferior games or they dont deserve recognition like the classic games. The reality of the situation is that Halo 2 and Halo CE are limited to MCC for Xbox One. Give the people what they want, spread out the playlists, and dont force people to do things like play a game they dont want to play. Halo players are like snowflakes, not one thinks the same about what kind of game each Halo truly is, so let them make their own preferred choice on which game they are playing and not a pregame vote.

See how long it takes to find a match because the population is spread thin over 30 different playlists. That is how its a problem. Also, only a few playlists will end up being the favorites so everyone will flock to those because they have larger populations. Therefore, making a lot of playlists empty.
I’m not a fan of your playlist suggestions. A 1v1 playlist never existed in any of the Halos and now you want to introduce one? Some of my favorite game modes are objectives. So now I’m forced to play MLG or doubles to get some oddball or CTF? Team skirmish from Halo 2 was a popular playlist.

From what I heard, there was one at some point early in Halo 3.
I think from what I heard, the leader has a waypoint on their head so they couldn’t just hide.

Sometimes I forget that it doesn’t work the way it does on PC and that we’re at the mercy of matchmaking rather than being able to instantly choose and join a server.
The community resolving quickly and efficiently which playlists it wants kinda seems like problem solved though.

Because then most games will be laggy, or have uneven teams, or both? Derp.
Trueskill is turned off now until they fix MM, but they will need lot of people in each playlist if they are ever going to put skill matching back.
I wouldnt expect my exact design to be implemented, its merely an outline. The games are different and should have different playlists accordingly. Yes some playlists could be nearly empty and some overflowing, that will fluctuate as players moods do. Also, empty playlists will always be a problem regardless of the quantity available, people will continue to leave if they are forced to play a game they are uninterested in. There are 5 games on one disc, you cant honestly expect everyone to enjoy or even tolerate each game the same as the next. Some people that love one Halo game, could say they hate another. Forcing players to make a decision on whether to play a mixed game playlists because the game/game-type they do want to play is in there or to not even bother because the game/game-type they really despise is also an option, is how you lose player interest. I play hockey, doesnt mean i will like or would consider spending my time trying to figure skate, even though its essentially played on the same “field”. Same thing will apply in all walks of life, some people dont want to be told what to do or what to be interested in. This is how most Halo players feel about any combination of Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 2A, and their respective game-types. Spread the playlists out amongst each game, playlists will come and go as they have since 2005.
Side note: Head to Head was a playlist in Halo 2. I think more people, especially new players, would benefit and enjoy the 1v1 format as opposed to playing with random match-made teams. Most competitive games that arent FPS, are generally played in a Head to Head arena. Forcing Halo to be a “team game” is another way of alienating certain players that would enjoy or have enjoyed the game as a 1v1 FPS, which Halo can be.
They should remove Halo 2 Anniversary and give those playlist slots to classic Halo’s. They have/dad 3 dedicated playlists to a “re-imagining” of Halo 2 which has a total of SIX maps to play on. THREE PLAYLISTS for SIX maps and one version of Halo that nobody asked for.
Playlists don’t even matter though, until they fix the game.
I approve of this since it allows people to play a playlist with the game they like the most aswell as being able to play a mixed playlist with all games.
The only negative is that a bigger playerbase is requered for it and since noone knows the current playercount. If it’s under 20k then the current playlists are fine but doesn’t fill out the playlists enough to make them seem “full”
if the population is over 40k then the playlists would be more or less valid to have since they won’t be that watered down.
I can’t say that any of the numbers are 100% correct, it’s just an assumtpion.
OP is right, I’d go back to MCC more often if 343i bothered to do something like this, one of the main reason why I don’t bother with MCC much is because of the forced H4 in matchmaking.
This is exactly what me and all of my friends and everyone ive ever talked to on mcc thought it was going to be like. Having this setup working functionally would bring back so many players itd be unreal. Even if there was 5000 in each pplaylist (which would be the very least, except for h4 lol), the game would be vastly better. 343 should seriosuly consider this as an option, we need to keep this thread alive.
with the population being so low now to many play list like that matchmaking times will be super slow. to me it should more simplified. it should have … MCC ranked rumble pit, max 6 players, MCC rumble pit social max 8 players… then you have a slayer playlist ranked and social which has your team based games of 4vs4 and big team. then you have an team objection play list ranked and social which has all the team objective games. a nice steam lined playlist to keep populations high and match making faster.
change those social playlists to skirmish instead of just social slayers and id say this is pretty solid. i mean there are technically 5 games on this disc, but 343 makes it feel like were only getting demo versions of each. the playlists should be there to support the amount of people that could potentially want to play this game. if 1 game gets a certain number of fans, we shouldnt expect any of those fans to like another halo game just because it has halo in the title, they are all very different. when you put this many games on a disc you should allow people to enjoy each game separately.
