How to fix sprinting melees without getting rid of sprint

A problem in Reach for people who were anti-sprint was that beatdowns were far too powerful. A player could be down a shot or two and simply sprint up to his enemy and punch him twice to trade kills.

Most people, when thinking of a fix for this, think of three things.

1: Make it take 3 beatdowns to kill.

2: Have bleedthrough so that the person who has shots in him will, assuming he has gotten enough of his shield taken down, die in one beatdown.

3: Get rid of sprint.

I have a much simpler way to solve this problem, that heightens the skill required for close quarters battles in Halo. Simply make the melee hitboxes smaller so that they can be ducked.

Anyone who has played Halo 2 can tell you that when engaging in CQC you should duck as to avoid a melee or BXR. Simply adding this back into the game (the ducking, not the button glitches) would solve the sprint-melee problem.

This would mean that 343 would need to make it so that the player actually needs to aim at the opponent for a melee to land, as opposed to the auto-aim melee in Reach. This way they have to aim down to hit someone ducking and up to hit someone jumping. This would add a new dynamic to CQC in Halo.

What do you guys think?

option 3 is the only solution.

Get rid of sprint, problem solved.

You can just have a delay before you can melee after sprinting.

Whats to fix, sounds like a valid strategy to me.

I had no problems with double melees in halo 3. eff sprint.

How about this; if you sprint and then stop sprinting there is a delay before you can melee, throw grenades or shoot.

Personally I have no issues with sprint. Armor lock yes, sprint no.

I’d like this idea if sprint was added or not.

Take away lunges. CE didn’t have them, and it worked great. Any random 7-year old couldn’t pick up the game and instantly double-melee someone for a kill.

Hitboxes in Reach in general are huge. I don’t want to be headshot when a bullet went into my lower-back.

option 5 bring back the BR which is 4 shot with no zoom instead of 5 shot with bloom like the dmr is… oh wait they did do that. so yeah im sure its perfect now. its just like how AR rushing was in 3. if your good no AR rusher or sprint rusher will ever stop you when you have 4 shot

i highly agree that lunge should be removed from all weapons that arent the energy sword

Like a 2 second delay?

It really is. Alas, it won’t happen.

But if this is changed then you can’t just sprint and melee everyone to death.

Shooting weapons in a Halo game? No way man.
