My theory is simple. Right now if you quit you don’t lose anything so people couldn’t care less if they quit or not. What I think should happen, similar to halo 3, is you lose a rank. Now you might think this is way to much, but they would disable this if you were joined into a game part way through already or got lagged out of the game.
This feature would activate as soon as you see what map choices you get so there should always be a good amount of players when the game starts.
This way also means the higher rank you are, the bigger penalty you pay.
Even if you still think this is to much, remember the only real reason you should have to quit is because you have to leave to do something.
I don’t think it needs to be a rank (although since I never quit I’d love to see the penalty as harsh as possible).
On halo 3 (if my memory serves me correctly) you gained 1xp for winning, lost 1xp for quitting. On halo 4, you get about 2-2.5k for winning, so losing 2k for quitting seems fairly reasonable.
I would definitely rather they have to wait until the game they quit ends before they can even search for a new game though.
JiP will never work and will always be a flawed concept, people just need to be punished A LOT more for quitting rather than a 1 hour ban per 1 million quits
That would probably work, if you quit as well loosing xp you have to wait for the match you quit ends. Nice idea
Also you were correct with halo 3 but I think if people knew what they were going to lose, only 2000 xp (something they could easily regain in one game) they still wouldn’t be too bothered. If you were a SR130 and you quit and lost a rank that would be several days to regain their rank. The bigger the penalty, the less people will quit
Honestly now that JiP has been tweaked from adding you to total lost causes I see no reason to change anything further. Quitting used to be the single greatest problem in halo and now it no longer is. Even if you don’t like being thrown in a match, just think how grateful your team is to be less disadvantaged than they were.
Only time I would avoid JiP was when I was still working on the first strike stance. Now that I have that I gladly join in progress. If you dislike JiP then simply don’t do it, you have that option. Take the glitch way out: hit start, go to network settings, and eject yourself from the lobby by switching off Xbox live.
I see no reason whatsoever to complain about JiP in halo 4

Yes but people like you who dislike JIP only speak of how JIP is bad when you are the one getting put into the game.
JIP was NEVER, and I mean NEVER, supposed to benefit the guy who is pushed into a game mid-match. JIP is there to even up games when people quit - the benefit is entirely to the people who were already in the match, and that is entirely the intention.
People can go ahead and use the network trick to avoid JIP, because I will never be able to tell anyway. However, in my eyes, refusing to play JIP games is equivilant to saying “I will only play games where I start Red Team (on maps where red spawn is best)”. The only way you can ever play as red team, is if other people are willing to play as blue. By refusing to play blue you take all of the benefit of spawning red, but refuse to pass that benefit on to other players when you spawn blue.
I’m tired of getting put into a match that was 4 v 1 before I got there, and the team I join is down 4 flags to 0, and the other team has all on map Power Weapons and 100% map control.

The only way that works fairly is if players who turn it off can only play with other players who turn it off. Otherwise turning it off would give you 100% benefit of JIP, without you contributing any benefit to other players. Therefore unless play was entirely divided between Non-JIP and JIP, all players would turn it off even if they think its a good feature.
HA the fact 50% of voters think there should be no quit penalty (and no doubt also no JIP) is absolutely ridiculous.
Removing JIP is the only way to fix it. And I agree, the only true punishment for quitters is to deduct XP/points. if they quit often enough so they de-rank then that’s their own fault.
This is how it should have been handled in Reach too. The quitters are still rampant in that game.

JIP is a flawed concept and will never work, or are you just that stupid? Who WANTS to join the losing team? Who LIKES to lose? Nobody. Who WANTS to be put at a disadvantage? Nobody.
Who quits matches? The people that are destroying the opposing team? No… why would they?
Who really quits matches though… oh, thats right; people that are losing. Nobody in their right mind will quit a match if they are dominating the other team, unless they just got humiliated by a death.
JIP will never work, unless it has a system where it will not allow you to join a game more than 1/3 done IMO.
If you think about it in general, I think, JiP is a good feature. I remember a game back in Halo: Reach, where I was playing Arena, and my whole team quitted quite fast. I refused to quit (because I hate that) and got beaten down by a pro team of 4 Spartans. I still got the video of it.
This were a time, where I wished, a JiP system would exist.
Because it’s there to prevent that people (or worse, people with bad skills or fun players) get beaten by a good team (they don’t stand 1 vs. 4) and then doesn’t want to play the whole game anymore.
Now that it exists, we face several new problems. I think, ways to ‘fix’ it, would be:
let people only join, when the game scores are still a bit balanced (so not a 50 to 600 Score, max 10[?] Kills difference).
Disable quitting after a. a certain amount of time and/or score, b. a certain difference between the teams, c. if a certain minimum of team members is reached (for example, minimum 4 players per team on Big Team).
And 3. and last, like Riot Rojas mentioned, disable it completely in certain playlists, ‘‘Competitive Playlists’’ or a few ‘Pro’ playlists. It helps keeping the spirit of ‘competitive’ gaming. As Spartans in simulation games/training, you don’t quit because you’re losing. You fight to the end and win, or die tryin (several times).
And maybe 4., give us the option to disable quitting in custom games (host can end the game for all)
A lot of matches in Halo 4 START without full teams, because people quit when they see they aren’t getting maps that they want. Usually JiP fills those gaps before the game is even a minute in, turning what would have been a completely pointless match into a game again. There is nothing competitive in a match where you start down a guy to half a team or more down, or if your team mates quickly quit out leaving you to get spawn camped. Players will always quit, there is no penalty severe enough. Halo 3 took away an entire victory’s worth of EXP and that still didn’t work. If it is some extreme quit ban then you will just push players further away from halo. “An hour long quit ban?” puts in a different game rather than wait
JiP has largely been fixed. It does not put you into games that are already lost usually, the games are largely still fluid and saveable. I don’t think it ever puts you in late games anymore or games with 3 flags capped already (in 5 cap matches). Occasionally you even get put on the winning team because someone lagged out.
But again I reiterate, if you don’t like JiP, then just avoid it. It is easy to avoid.
