How to fix grapplejacks

This is a hot topic at the moment, but I haven’t seen many suggestions that make much sense, so here’s mine…

Reduce the range of the grappleshot when targeting vehicles.

This way you still have an edge in boarding vehicles, but it isn’t anywhere near as excessive.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

oh this one is easy, if you grapple a vehicle allow the driver and passenger to melee the grapple jack and force it off, gives some more purpose to having your Hog full, gunners however are kinda stuck in their job to shoot lol

a nice back an fourth on some vehicles would be nice,

I’m however still mad I cant melee a tank to death anymore…

For now if there’s new tech that we just don’t know about that can counter grapplejack then maybe but just getting a grapple to connect to a banshee or wasp shouldn’t have a better reward than getting an emp off.

You’re having a laugh if you think grapplejacks aren’t ridiculously unbalanced

In general I would support the grapple getting just a “little more” range.
But in terms of balancing grapplejack I think this is could be a good idea specifically for vehicles.
I would prefer it if players were encouraged to grapple the environment to close the gap for a highjack instead of grappling the vehicle itself.
Imagine people swinging up cliffwalls to highjack banshees instead of just pressing a button to take it.

I 100% agree, it’s added a way to combat air vehicles as a Spartan! My advice is if you’re annoyed about grapplejacks just keep your distance from other players it’s that simple

Air vehicles were so powerful that there really wasn’t much to combat them, so seeing the grapplejacks start as a thing is really cool. I do think if it does become too much of a problem to slow the velocity of the hook. My opinion, though, the grapple hook needs more range, at least in story mode. I’d also like to see more equipment return from 3 like the flare and the energy drain.

Fix your tactics. Before you drive a vehicle, grab Dynamo or Grappleshot with you, and keep distance from enemy, solved.

Grapple hook should have a light reflection like sniper weapons so you can see and avoid those players when you’re in vehicles.

Don’t fix the Grapple Hook. Buff the vehicle!

Grapplejacks are super easy however.

You’re living in a dream world in that case. There is no keeping distance from people with the grappleshot, it’s range is so good, and there are so many nooks and crannies. You’re lying to yourself if you think it’s possible to simply keep a distance from those players, and I say that as someone who bills themselves on being a good driver.

I think when you grapplejack anything, minus the ghost, I think you should go to the old animation of melee. You should have to punch the pilot a couple times before pulling him out. So for example, The game makes you punch him twice and on the third melee you grab and throw the pilot out. I know this doesn’t help how easy it is to do but at least it gives teammates time to potentially shoot them off or focus more on the vehicle getting hijacked.

I do agree that grapple jacking seems pretty easy and I’ve done it lots already. I actually find it easier doing that than EMP it even with anything And I don’t think that’s right. I can definitely see this becoming an issue in BTB.

Until they swing up the cliffs and get into grappleshot range of you

I think it should eat all charges up when grapplejacking. It’s way too strong and almost eliminates the danger of walking up to the vehicle for a successful highjack.

I’m totally agree with your proposal, it shouldn’t be so esay to hijacking a vehicule with grapple, it take no competence, only the chance to get the grapple. Driver should have something to do to defend themself, like push buton melee quickly to get ride of them.

the grappleshot has a target assist, just reduce it or even remove it for vehicles to make it harder to pull off. picking up a grapplehook shouldn’t be an “I win” button vs vehicles, that’s never how halo was balanced. even the splaser took some level of skill.

I would agree if we didn’t have 3 emp weapons at min to combat them.

I didn’t particularly think the grapple jack is OP, but maybe If you grapple jack and the vehicle then accelerates to a particular velocity (ghost and Banshee) and you are at a specific distance from the vehicle then it severs the grapple? Human vehicles I don’t think need to be changed. Hogs have the turret and passenger for extra protection and wasps can turn in any direction and kill grapple jackers, maybe buff damage of wasp turrets vs players grappled to you to make it a bit easier.

Quick fix 1

  • grapple shot has to be charged and aimed to attach yourself to vehicles. Charged not in the sense of a timer, but more in the sense of simply holding the button down. Which then brings a visual cue for the user, and to anyone looking at the user.

Example

Spartan sees an air vehicle and wishes to hijack. The spartan will give off some type of visual representation that they are “charging” to hijack.
-holding down the equipment button now brings up a special reticle that turns a certain color when in range, and not that color out if range.

  • the balance
  • no need to charge at all when using it in your standard scenario. It is only needed for vehicles.
  • no charge up timer, but by default should have a minimum delay to give off the visual that the spartan is readying the grapple shot. Think of a snipers glint. You’d see something like that.
  • a dedicated range of effectiveness to be determined. Hopefully it can take some guess work out of the equation

Quick fix 2

  • do absolutely nothing. Working as intended
