How to fix Armor Lock

Most people whine and complain about armor lock. They just ignorantly say “remove it.”

Don’t you remember the time before noobs abused it? Armor lock used to be a respected ability. It wasn’t some stupid, overpowered, noob-tube.

Activating armor lock to smash a ghost is cool. It makes it so ghosts cannot constantly zoom around the map splattering everyone they see.

Using armor lock to protect yourself from a grenade is a good use for armor lock. It’s not noobish. It takes a little timing.

Using armor lock to shield yourself from a banshee bomb, rocket, or energy sword takes a lot of timing.

Blocking an energy sword with it takes skill. You have to get the swordsman to lunge at you, then activate armor lock before they hit you.

Armor lock can also be used as a distraction or a way for enemies to waste grenades. This is a great teamwork tactic. While the other team is busy shooting the armor locker, the rest of the team can run around and get all of the power weapons.

The problem with armor lock is that it gets used by noobs to prevent themselves from dying. Here is an example.

Some red person starts shooting a blue person
Blue person’s shields go down before the red person’s do
Blue guy activates armor lock
Other blue people kill the red guy

Now how is this fair? The red guy outfought the blue guy but the red guy now dies.

Before saying “Armor lock is for noobs! just remove it,” maybe we should see if there is a way to fix it.

I would suggest making it so you cannot activate armor lock when your shields are down. You should also not be able to recharge your shields in armor lock.

Right now, when you activate armor lock, the invisible timer that counts down for your shield to recharge counts down while you are in armor lock. When you exit armor lock, your shields are usually fully charged or immediately start charging.
This should just be changed. No charging shields in armor lock.

The bad use for armor lock is using it to make sure you don’t lose a fight.
The good uses are everything else.

Armor lock should be fixed, not removed.

LOL wut, Armor Lock was never respected, and heres why…

There is no “fix” for Armor Lock. Just take it out of the game.

> There is no “fix” for Armor Lock. Just take it out of the game.

Never gonna happen, it has 2 achievements tied to it, so it will always be in the game in some capacity.

Though lets be honest, if everything that everyone problem with was ‘just taken out of the game.’ we’d be left with little else then the menus. Tweaking takes work, outright removal is a sign of laziness.

The idea of it not working while shileds are down is pretty decent. I’d always thought they should put in a “minimum time limit” to the ability myself: This means that if a player uses AL, he HAS TO STAY IN AL for at least three seconds or so. This counters it’s usefulness as a pummel aid.

I used to constantly use armour lock. I got bored of it after a while. IMO sprint is the most fun AA to use, it helps speed up the game, AL just slows it down. Sure, temporary invincibility was cool to begin with, but the novelty wears off in time. I don’t have any problem with other people using it, in fact choosing between people armour locking to use the EMP effect (has happened once to me since rejoining xbl about 3 weeks ago after an 8 month absence) and lag, I’d choose being EMP’d any day! I can deal with occasional deaths through that than being lagged to death a lot. (I know wireless connection from my xbox to the router doesn’t help, I’ll get a wired connection sorted sometime, but it suffices, and isn’t actually that bad most of the time!)

Halo 4 will fix AL.

First off, stay away from it so you don’t lose your shields, #2 when the locker comes out toss a frag or sticky at his feet or on him and he’s done. If you have a power weapon just aim a rocket at his feet after he comes out, or stick with a plasma launcher or frg. Easy. Now it’s more annoying in games with fewer people, smaller maps, and less diverse weapons. On team slayer it runs rampant. I never play that game type because often you can find a team of 4 who all use it to avoid death. Games like those it shouldn’t be called team slayer but -Yoink- slayer. Instead of using tactics or strategy just abusing it to get the job done. Personally I only use it if there are alot of ghosts around, but generally the aa’s I choose are not based on which is more fun, but which works better in battle. On boneyard I often choose jetpack to get to rockets before anyone else does. Instead today I chose sprint to get a ghost to get to the scorpian before anyone else. Which ability works the best with the current situation.

The only thing that was ever wrong with AL was the frequency with which it could be used (recharge rate). Imho, it should have recharged at half the rate of other AA’s.

The only AA that truly should be removed from the game is Jetpack, imho.

Removal of jetpack would make many HLG hiding spots impossible to reach, however because there is a number of achievements attached to it it will never happen.

Stoped reading after this ^

You obviously never played the game before every noob used it to keep themself from dying.

> I used to constantly use armour lock. I got bored of it after a while. IMO sprint is the most fun AA to use, it helps speed up the game.)

The game was slowed down to accommodate every ability.

Fact.

Wait, did you just say that in a 1v2 fight the lone player should have won?

If 343 would finally increase the jump height to the one from Halo 3 I would not need armor lock to prevent being splatterd anymore but since they don’t care I’ll continue using it.

Depends on the situation. If the Locker is by themselves, I will stay to try and get the kill; if the locker has teammates closing on me, I will let him live and stay safe unles my team is there too.

“Live to fight another day.”

AL Solution:
AL should ONLY be usable at full shields. (Preventing noobs from using it just to delay their deaths.)
The player should NOT be able to exit AL prematurely. (They should always have to wait the entire duration of AL.) Taking away it’s usefulnees as an pummelling aid.
AL should not emit an EMP.

OR
AL should only resist explosive weapons and vehicles.

Apply some of those standards to other AA and lets see how much sense they make.

Only allow sprint/invis/JP to be used when you have full shield.
Player cant turn off sprint/invis/JP prematurely.

You could just play playlist where the big bad wolf does not hunt.

Armour Lock has it’s uses (like when there is that one guy who does not know how to fire the Ghost’s cannons and always goes for the splatter), but apart from that it just seems like a way to prolong your (often) inevitable death.

> Now it’s more annoying in games with fewer people, smaller maps, and less diverse weapons.

I gotta disagree. With less players its great and easy to kill an armor locker. 1v1 against an armor locker is simple, because as you said… a nade to his feet and he’s done. However in ffa or team gametypes… his teammates or some other person comes by and cleans you up.

So I’d have to say, the less players on the map… armor lock isn’t that bad. But as soon as more people come into play, the imbalance shines through.

(funny question: if AL emits EMP, how does it not blast of the users shield? That would by my personal armor lock fix. Tiny use of AL blasts off half of users shield, full use blasts all of it)
