I’ve been getting a lot of players leaving for whatever reason but here is my conclusion to determine rather it was a disconnection on their end or 343’s or them actually quitting.
If the player quits in the very beginning of the game thats usually a disconnection. Mostly if not all the time. Why anyone would quit during the beginning of a game is illogical unless they’re “trolling” -Yoinks!-.
If the player disconnects when your team is actually “winning” its usually a disconnection on their part or 343’s. I don’t think theres anyone who ever plans on quitting a winning match. Unless its a “trolling” -Yoink- hoping if they quit your team will start loosing.
Now if its mid game and it appears you’re team is going to loose and a player quits. They’ve obviously quit and didn’t disconnect because they’re sore losers. Plain and simple. This happened a lot during Halo 2’s multiplayer days and Halo 3’s from what I can recall (when there were hardly ever any disconnects cause game companies had better servers back then). Also before there were ever trolls scouring the internet cesspool.
I had a game yesterday where it was lagging so badly players were able to throw grenades and lunge with swords during the clamber animation
I’m sorry but if I get put into a game that’s a laggy mess to the point that an entire clip of a BR won’t kill someone and then fan throw grenades while in the middle of clambering
im quitting
plain and simple

Actually My last disconnect was about midgame and we were losing. It brought me to 8 since Launch. Unfortunately there isn’t a real way to determine why someone left a match (as a player anyway), short of asking them and hoping they are honest in responding. Now the method you described may work as a good short hand, but it isn’t likely to be 100% effective.

If you’re lagging that bad I doubt its on 343’s end. Its more then likely your end. I’ve never had a match that laggy before. That or you must have really -Yoink- internet.
Even though I totally follow your logic in how you determine if someone is a quitter or a disconnect, I cannot agree.
No matter how much I am losing by in a game, I always stick it out. That being said, I’ve had disconnects in losing matches and in winning ones. At the beginning, middle, and end.
The vexatiousness of the all over the place disconnects that I’ve had, has me withholding any judgements of why other players have left any game I’m in.

I really get tired of the “it’s your internet” line
I only ever lag like this in MCC and H5
i play destiny with 0 lag
I play titanfall with a grand total of 28 players in Australia just fine with zero lag
I play the titanfall 2 beta with 0 lag
my internet isn’t the best, I live in Australia after all, however the problem isn’t with my internet it’s more the way H5 picks what “dedicated server” I play on
Instead of playing on one of the two Aussie servers I usually end up being matched up with people from Texas…

well put
The disconnect, she is a tempest. As much as I hate quitters, and I do hate quitters, I have been disconnected, albeit less than 10 times in over 2k games. There is no way to tell for sure quit v disconnect. Many times quitters pick the most inopportune time, like when you need them the most.

Same here, I’m so sick of people saying it’s my end. Then why can I play every other game with no lag, but the moment I jump into Halo 5 everything starts lagging like crazy.
The lag is so constant I’ve just stopped playing the game all together until they fix this issue.

Morningstar I cant agree more with you. The way H5 picks what “dedicated server” one plays on is a total joke! I am a US player and live nowhere near Texas yet I pass up two servers closer to me and end up on the server in Texas. If your getting players from Texas thats because that’s where one of the “dedicated servers” are. I cant even imagine what kind of game that would be to play if your from Aussie. That’s a shame man…
Zippy.
Ok I don’t like the penalty system. I live on a hobby farm and there are times I have to quit a game… I shouldn’t be (in my opinion) punished for working or having to leave. Sure some chronic quitters should be punished but the game forces people to make it a priority in life by punishing those who are just trying to get by.
Also the utter hate towards people that have jobs or need to pee and get DNFs is wrong in my opinion.

i only quit because i have to do something for my parent because win or lose you get xp and rp so i never quit unless i have to
These observations are not foolproof. Some players refuse to play particular maps, and will either quit really early or use that dashboarding method when they see a map they don’t like is coming up. Some players also when they are doing poorly, even if their team is winning, because they’re personal performance is too bad for their tastes.
Now, most people who leave a game while their team is losing (particularly when it’s a really one sided game), chances are it’s a quit, but this isn’t always the case. Disconnects, when they happen, can happen at any time.
It’s never so cut and dry as to the reason behind someone leaving a game. We can only use context clues and what little info is available to draw the best conclusions we can. But even then, there is room for error.

That part right there…so true about me when I try to play Halo 5 with my terrible internet…brb, I’m gonna cry an ocean.

I feel ya bro… I FEEL YA! (-’_’)-
Sometimes people quit at the start of a round.
Just quit because they don’t like whatever map.

Nope. Yesterday, I was playing a game where we were losing badly, and I was in the middle of trying to capture a stronghold when I got disconnected from the server.
There isn’t a full proof way to tell if they quit or got disconnected. The best way to tell is by watching what they do in theater. If they’re in the middle of an action and they quit, then it’s likely that they got disconnected. Or, you could send them a message and ask them.

+1000. Exactly
Here’s a recent game that was going just fine until…
http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/FunkyStorm/video/20792221
Welcome to global internet matchmaking… from down under…
My net connection is rock solid with almost every game. I have cable 100/2, wired connection, and yet this happens.
Repeatedly. Could be mid game, near the end, or right at the start. My connection is fine - I check it before I even start up halo
If the guy who left the game is named XenonYoshi then it was a disconnect. Because he deals with internet like this on a daily basis
