How to continue sprinting when getting shot?

So countess times when playing this game I’ll be sprinting trying to take cover when getting shot and after the first shot I’ll be taken out of my Sprint thus not allowing me to get to cover and dieing numerous times.

Meanwhile I’ll be fairly up close to someone and accuratley shoot them 2 or 3 times and they continue their Sprint towards me and then Spartan charge me and kill me. Or I’ll shoot them from a distance with a DMR and they continue sprinting and get to cover.

So is there something to do that keeps you sprinting that many others are doing that I’m not, because it’s pathetic the amount of times that I get Spartan charged while shooting them 2-3 times before they even get to me but I can’t do it to them.

You don’t. That’s how the mechanic is designed.

When you start Sprinting, you are in a sort of “charge up” period, the same charge up you use to start Spartan Charge. During that period, getting shot will take you out of Sprint.

When you are capable of Spartan Charging, you are in “full Sprint”, and won’t be shot out of Sprint anymore.

This reminds me, Halo 5 needs a tutorial on this stuff, because it’s not explained anywhere, including the Campaign.

This is correct ^

you’re right, maybe someone should explain these fine points in game but that doesn’t happen.

To add to this, you can tell when you’re “fully charged” by the two “brackets” that replace your crosshair. It sort of looks like this: < >

I think the best bet if you’re being shot at while trying to flee and not in a full sprint is to just turn and return fire. One of several options will happen: 1) you’ll make your attacker flee thus allowing yourself the ability to get to cover 2) you’ll kill your attacker and won’t need that cover from them at least 3) you’ll die, but hey, at least you accepted your fate or 4) you’ll royally irritate the enemy and he’ll call for back up; so you’ll probably die if your own team can’t lend some assist.

If you are already sprinting you won’t be taken out of sprint completely you’ll just slow down. That’s just the wrong time to sprint try walking more often and look around before sprinting.

Its in the design so that you can’t just run away scott free.

I had never noticed that - just tried it out and lo and behold, there the triangular brackets be… useful little tip in the heat of battle!

Thanks for the topic don’t think I had fully realized the mechanics at play. On a related note are there some weapons that will take you out even with the Sprint in full swing or maybe slow you to an even greater degree? Cause I swear that blissful slumber just glues me to the spot. I remember one sick instance not being able to lunge with my sword due to what seemed like blow back against blissful slumber. FELT LIKE SUCH A NEWB. Who looses with a sword!?

Well for starters it can be turned off in custom games but the odds of 343 changing it for a new gametypes is like 1/ 1,000,000.

I think the Gravity Hammer can knock you back. Lots of people can lose with a sword. Sprinting and then zooming in to get a greater red reticle range can be very awkward which can cause you to mess up and die.

If you were coming full sprint at someone with a Blissful Slumber, chances are the slowness you felt was the extra knockback that weapon has. Not sure about other weapons’ inherent knockback properties, but Blissful Slumber specifically has amped up knockback.
