How to catch up with canon?

It’s been a while since I played the original games, and I never played 4 all the way through. I’ve started 5. Anybody have recommendations on what to watch/read/play to be sufficiently up-to-speed for what unfolds in 5?

I’ll live if I’m puzzled, but I’d sure like to know what’s going on.

Wiki or YouTube.

I’ll give you the short list:

The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund (the book, not the graphic novel): Details Blue Team’s early years on Reach and their subsequent missions.
Halo: Ghosts of Onyx by Eric Nylund: Details the S-III program and the beginning of the end for children being used as Spartans.
Halo: Nightfall (show): Details Locke before he was a Spartan. Gives insight on his mentality and such.

Both books are well written, and do go by pretty fast. The show is not as well done, but it is pretty solid and has a nice survival aspect to it. Bonus, if you watch it via the Halo Channel you can unlock the Nightfall helmet and armor for Halo 5.

Thanks MolonLabe0928, that’s exactly what I was looking for. Looks like I’ve got plans for this weekend!

I would also suggest Halo: First Strike. It has some more details about Master Chief and Cortana that I think you’ll find helpful.

You could also go off the list 343i gave us.
Halo 5 Connections.
Then after that expand to my Halo Story and where to find it thread that’s in my signature.
