To be honest it’s hard to be an assassin in Halo 5. In 4 it was a lot easier, primarily because of active camo being very useful. So easy that I unlocked the assassin armor VENATOR somewhere around SR 25-30. Now with halo 5 on the other hand with its odd assassination mechanics, probably lag… I mean I’m standing directly behind an enemy, so close I can give them a hug, I press and hold melee and they just get hit and die? And at other times I can be like 50 feet away and warp to them for the assassination ( complete exaggeration but a clearly visible distance ), and different game engine I have yet to master the art of poking people in the back , probably because the game feels off to me i dont know why… or because I haven’t played since Halo 4 and started playing 5 about 2 months ago. And with my 2 months of experience I’ve already completed the assassin commendation .( somewhere around SR 30+ my skill level isn’t that far off ). In Halo 4 being an assassin was easy thanks to how useful active camo was… Key word “useful” doesn’t mean it was needed. As I played through Halo 4 I soon learned what active camo was used for and how it is used as an assassin, which being s me to step one.
STEP 1: Escape ( very self explanatory )
Knowing how to get away is an assassins greatest tool, what’s the point in assassinating someone when your going to die 2 seconds later or worse before you get the kill. Escaping impossible situations is a necessity, when you can get away you can assassinate another prey.
STEP 2: Your Surroundings
Learn the maps. Knowing the layout of the maps helps your gameplay a lot and boosts your skill level greatly. Thanks to the aim assists and Spartan charge I don’t recommend bait tactics but knowing when and where to hide turns “Escape” into assassination opportunities.
STEP 3: Your Prey
You are a tiger ready to kill, a cheetah on the run, a lion ready to pounce. Target those who are by themselves (snipers) and use “Your Surroundings” to your advantage so you can quickly get to your prey before they see you, and if necessary “Escape” when the tables are turned. Choose your targets wisely the easiest are sometimes the hardest,
STEP 4: Truth
As you get better as an assassin and a player as a whole, you will realize that playing the role of “assassin” in halo contradicts what an assassin really is, your not waiting for the kill nor does the kill come to you, you just happen to be behind someone to get an assassination, in one word that would be luck. Yes Luck. If you have no luck your assassin game will always be lacking.

Yes as soon as you learn to “Escape” and use “Your Surroundings” to hunt “Your Prey” you’ve mastered the basics! But when you reach the unspoken “Truth”… now that’s when the fun truly begins :3 ( I was going to further elaborate but I’ll keep it vague for those who fully realize the Truth )
