My friends and I are going to organized regularly get-togethers where we play Halo 5 online together, both Arena and Warzone. We had our first outing last night and played Arena. However, we did terribly. Much worse than we all usually do separately. I think we went on a 14-game losing streak in one stretch. I think the problem is that none of us are really elite Halo players, and so, we don’t know much strategy, particularly when it comes to coordinating teamwork.
It seemed that some of the teams we faced did a good job of ‘holding down a fort’–controlling a room. And it was nearly impossible for us to break them up, mostly because when any of us died, we’d each re-spawn at separate times and flood into their room, essentially serving as easy cannon fodder for them. I tried to tell my teammates to ‘wait’ until we all gathered together so that we could coordinate a simultaneous attack, but I didn’t really know how to coordinate that attack. Like, do you send everyone in through the same door, try to flank them, etc.?
And then in another map I saw a team do the opposite of this ‘holding down the fort’ strategy, as they were essentially swarming around together as a team, but when we tried emulating this technique, we, again, were cannon fodder.
Now, I don’t think we’re all that bad, as most of us were ranked in Gold or Platinum, with one Silver. So I’m hoping it was just because I failed as a leader and can subsequently learn how to direct the team and coordinate attacks.
What are the best ways to do this? What are the best strategies for playing Halo 5? Or, put differently, how can we, as a team, improve our winning percentage?
Think of your individual skills.
Who is good in sniping/long range
Wich one of you is a good brawler and who tosses the best grenades?
Everyone has to find his role and has to know if he is a “pusher” or a “supporter” (at least we call them like that)
So the pushers have to attract the enemy and land the first few shots/melees while the supporters take them out from the distance… or if the enemies are in a room the supporters throw a grenade to take down the shields and the the pushers run into them to take them out with a single melee…
I mean first of all, storming single file through a doorway probably isn’t the best way to attack an enemy position.
Let’s use Cafe (I think that’s the room I’m thinking of) on Plaza as an example. Have one guy enter from one door, another through the opposite door, then the third through the window up top. The enemy can’t aim at three different positions at once.
You probably want everyone to maybe not be following each other, but still sticking in relatively close proximity. Example, maybe two guys are at blue spawn on Colliseum, while the other two are at the Sniper area. Or to use Plaza as an example, two guys at Flowers and two guys at Orange or Tram. This does two things. First, the middle is exposed to everyone on your team, and just a little bit of repositioning will let you all combine fire at any point of the map. Second, since those two areas are close regrouping won’t be a major struggle.
Make sure to time and remember item spawns. Maybe say “I just got Active Camo”, so everyone on your team can know when it will be up if you fail to get it a second time.
I’ll tell you a strategy that helps me a lot. Join the military (either Army or Marines. I did the US Army), do combat arms, (Infantry preferably) and work your way to a fireteam leader or even squad leader. Then by then, your brain will be molded and designed to constantly think strategically on the fly.
