How to Balance Ground Pound

When I first saw Ground Pound I, like many other Halo players, thought it seemed unbalanced. However, with the right amount of balancing, I think Ground Pound could actually be a meaningful addition to Halo 5’s multiplayer. The following is how I, personally, would balance Ground Pound. In order to activate Ground Pound the player would hold down the crouch button (whatever that may be) and aim the ability’s reticle. Upon releasing the crouch button the Spartan would use the Ground Pound in the designated area. How long the player held the crouch button would determine the strength of the Ground Pound. A player could hold crouch for as long as he/she wished, however, after a certain period of time (ideally 5 seconds) the Ground Pound would no longer become any stronger. This would balance Ground Pound because players would have to suspend themselves mid-air (thus making themselves vulnerable) for a longer period of time in order to have a stronger attack. Likewise, if a player only needed to do a small amount of damage, they wouldn’t have to suspend themselves for as long.

It doesn’t even look that useful. In the time it takes to use you could kill someone through traditional means without losing the height advantage.

but if there are people bunched together

Before balancing it, you should play it first. Wait for the Beta. It seems pretty balanced right now.

Don’t bunch up

I know 343i has already tried to balance Ground Pound. I was just stating how I, personally, would have balanced the Spartan Ability.

from watching Greenskull play and destroying people he didn’t really get many good results with the ground pound and he was out classing those people but out of the 6 games i saw he only got i think 2 kills with it

I think damage should be determined by height, and you slowly go down while aiming the reticle as you would when using smart scope in the air

That could work, however, the issue is that if you sink downward (even if it’s slow) you potentially avoid enemy fire. My idea would require players to suspend themselves mid-air for a few seconds which would leave them more vulnerable, especially if they wanted to charge up for a strong Ground Pound.

How do you know it’s not already balanced? I’ve seen every gameplay video there is of this game and everyone whose played it said it is extremely hard to pull off which is why you hardly see anyone do it or they fail at doing it when they try to.

Make it consume your shields after use.

It may seem like Ground Pound is balanced now because it is hard to use, however, once people master the Spartan Ability it might get abused. I guess we will have to wait till the beta to see if it needs further balancing.

Keep the 1HK to it to balance it just make it all or nothing.

95%-100% on target is a kill.

0-94% on target =Miss, 2 second recovery, no damage to opponent.

restricted ability to aim combined with predictable charge time.

balanced.

Just seen a few h5 gameplay videos of the beta and u are already talking about balancing something
Ground Pound looks more like this nice-to-have thing, but from what we’ve seen from greenskull, according to him it’s even difficult to use and not op by any means

  1. Reduce/Remove splash damage.

  2. Make the reticle smaller, so that it only covers the effective lethal range.

My old proposal was to make it so that Ground Pound only deals damage when it’s a direct hit, or the enemy is making contact with the ground.

That means your opponent can dodge by jumping out of radius or off the ground.

These are good ideas for balancing Ground Pound, however, they do nothing to keep the Spartan Ability’s appeal. My idea makes Ground Pound more versatile, allowing players increased control of the Spartan Ability. For example, players using my version of Ground Pound can use it to finish off a weak opponent without having to wait as long to charge. Thus it is more effective, but balanced nevertheless.
