how to Arena?

can someone give me the low down on how it works. everything i need to know to be successful, etc.?

basically i just WIN every game and i go up rank? (its based on win% right? so if i win 70% of the time what rank will i be?

urza is in need of some enlightenment.

Its based on Win loss but its who you beat which makes you go up a division. You can win against Bronze kids all day long, but you wont be onyx for doing so. You have to beat onyx kids.

Hate to saying but you need the loljetpack to be “the best”. Seriously not joking you clearly have to break the maps at top 1-10 percent onyx gameplay, but I don’t think we are aiming for that down low are we?

Yep, it’s entirely W/L now.

That being said, the amount a win goes towards moving up depends on the players you face. For example, beating a team of Onyx players will move you up more than say, beating a team of Iron players. Same goes for being moved down.

The more u win the more ur trueskill will go up, but it depends on who u play. If ur playing mostly Silver guys and u win, u will be Gold. Eventually if u win enough u will play against Onyx lv guys, but trust me, u won’t be able to hold a 70% win/loss percentage against them, especially if ur going in alone. I made Onyx with a 63% Win/Loss for season 8.

Season 9 currently I have Gold with a 53% win/loss. If u can hold a 60% win/loss ratio u should make onyx dude, but this season seems harder for some reason 0_o.

Get rated for 5 days, and u will have a rating. And don’t worry, the rating can be changed for better or for worse until the season is over.

There are less bad players going in just for the super jackpot and subsequently boosting your rating higher than it should be. Season 7 & 8 had terribly inflated ranks.

Last season your 75% Onyx landed you in the top 4800-5000 players. This season you need to be in the top 1200 players just to get Onyx at all.

@URZA
Yes, just win as much as possible. Teammates will help a lot as Arena doesn’t seem to account for that as much as Halo 3… in H3, you would rank much slower with teammates but in Reach it’s pretty much pure benefit.

Just Jetpack to clean up kills & put shots on everyone.

Powerhouse - Go to top nips and just sit there the whole game. Literally. Every 3 mins you can drop down for rockets but other than that, you will have a view of the entire map with TONS of cover and spawn your teammates at the top.

Asylum - Map control? No need, just keep poking up over the top of ring with jetpack until you put enough shots to either kill someone or leave him weak enough for a teammate. You can also easily nade their sniper from here.

Sword base - Only play it if you’re red team. Camp up top.

Reflection - Get rockets, keep rockets, camp balcony/lifts. Sword/shotty also helps for this. If you lose balcony, just jetpack to the top of the pillars in the main courtyard and you can put shots on to everyone up there and simply drop down behind if you get shot at for complete cover.

KillerWhale has some good videos showing how everything’s done.

> U bashed season 7. I was 80% Gold that season lower then I currently am, but failed to play again after I got rated(since I spent 2 months on Borderlands and Fallout New vegas). So it went down to 35% silver.

> Most everything else u said was correct. Except for the Jet Pack Strategies. Against good Onyx Players, careless Jet Packing will get u team shotted & killed real dang quick. Most top 10% Onyx kids like to have just one Jet Pack to draw attention to, while the others snipe and Team Shot the opposition, and their real good at this strat. Also against Onyx players, u need to Control ur Snipe(ESPECIALLY on Asylum) and make sure the guy is ur teams best shot with it. Trust me Beating them on this map will rely on ur guy who is sniping.

What the hell are you talking about? Of course I’m talking about this season, when did 3 & 4 come into the picture? Jesus kid, stay on topic.

And of course you’re not going to have your whole team doing those exact same jetpack strategies, why in the world would you ever send all 4 people to top nips? Use some common sense.

This isn’t even about you, this is about Urza. Stop being so offended about your placements when nobody was even “bashing” to begin with. You just love creating your own little implications from what other people wrote, don’t you?

The ironic truth to this is that, well considering glitch and bug-use, “breaking” something is how the game is played at the “highest” levels.

You get 99 choices but a glitch ain’t 1 in Reach.

Honestly, that’s awesome to hear. Hearing about high level teams over high level players is refreshing.

Good post is good.

Also, I’d like to add, you can get to Onyx quite easily soloing it, but if you really want to get into the low percentages you’ll need a team you play and communicate well with.

I’ve also got quite a handy tip for playing on Asylum (which I’m surprised not many do). If the enemy team rushes snipe, at the very start of the game get two teammates to throw nades to the enemy’s sniper spawn. You’ll often get a kill right of the bat.

These strategies are part of the reason Reach isn’t taken very seriously.

Many of the better players in Arena aren’t there because of their shot.

They are there because they crouch spam, crouch around maps with close range weapons+sprint and abuse the hell out of jetpack.

99% of the people I’ve played with/against in lolArena were terrible and the “better players” just abuse the above.

That is because easy aiming + bloom = shooting skills irrelevant(I know you know this). The main reason I hate playing reach at high levels. Teamwork,power-weapon control, and camping beats raw aiming skill/strafing skill(again irrelevant in reach). Call me old fashioned but I remember a Halo where you did not have to be glued to your teammates/camp to be successful.

The best thing to do is find a spot with good line of sight and cover, crouch, then spam. And if you play on BJ and can’t Jetpack well forget about it.
