Here are some strategies than work for me:
Higher ground - It cant be stressed enough how important it is. Whether you achieve it with jet packs , jumps or stairs ,it opens you up for better angles and harder to hit viewpoints for your opponents. The halo series has always included Easter eggs of sorts with their map design and the way they incorporate nooks and crannies into their maps. In bigger maps , potentially every rock formation should be explored for hidden make-shift sniper perch’s. Add a dmr to the mix and you’re all set. Just be sure to only fire when confident you will positively effect an outcome. Last thing you want to do is draw atention to yourself with errant fire.
E.O.S ( Element of surprise ) - Far too many take the grunt approach and rush anything in sight. This is a sure fire way to rack up numerous deaths. The more deaths you have the harder it will be to fix your k/d later on down the line. It is essential to set up one-man ambushes and play like a ninja’s mentality. Do not let yourself be seen before engaging. Ever. Spend more time crouching as it steadies your aim better , and constantly use cover as if you are playing on campaign legendary mode. Use a surprise charged up plasma blast and switch over to a mod ranged rifle for a quick noob combo. They are underutilized , and can be such a game changer. They are great starting secondary weapons against vehicles too. Stay on the outskirts of maps with your back to as many walls as possible. Reduce your opponents angles while planning a good escape route. Using promethian vision gives you a great upper hand by allowing you to see an opponents weapon through the wall just before engaging. Also the direction he is facing as well. A very effective form of offensive escape when running from a losing 1 on 1 firefight is running around a corner or into a doorway , activating promethian vision and quickly turning around and timing a grenade as the opponent is entering.
Proper flanking - having the wherewithal to situate yourself near a team mate who is about to engage in a 1 on 1 , and quickly running around and flanking the opponent from the side/back . It’s easier said than done , timing is essential as well as common sense in determining the best moment.
Running gunbutts - when choosing a speed boost from an ordinance drop , go around looking for battles already in progress and get in there and double gunbutt / shorty everyone to death. Again , timing is essential as well as battle IQ.
Feel free to add any more, cheers.
