To shed some context, I’m on my ultimate weekly challenge that requires you to get 5 killing sprees in the fiesta playlist. I had 3/5 killing sprees upon entering a match and I managed to get one, followed by a killing frenzy. Problem is, it didn’t count as an additional killing spree…
This might be an oversight, but it didn’t count as one, which means I have to hope and pray I get rockets/sword in fiesta again…

Because a Killing Spree, by definition, is kills 1-5 (without dying). It’s a medal you earn. Not sure what is confusing about this?

Yeah, it is kind of annoying that I had to be encouraged to intentionally die just to get 3 sprees in one game. All of these challenges encourage terrible behavior that otherwise people would never do, that go entirely against the mode objective

Ok but it should honestly count as a spree considering its two killing sprees in one

If it had ticked the progression counter by another 1 it would have been perfect, I find it hilarious that the spree challenge I had to intentionally kill myself every 5 kills to start the next one lol.

Yup, hoping 343 updates the challenge.
My issue was just trying to get good enough weapons to be able to get the killing sprees to begin with, which was a chore in itself as at least for me the randomization of the weapons was just god awful. Then finding out the one time I get a killing frenzy and it didn’t count was just salt in the wound at that point.
Challenge at least to me would have been way better if it was just 5 killing sprees in any mode instead of a mode that is literally based around rng

Honestly, that has to be an oversight. Can it be reported? There is no reason why a frenzy shouldn’t count as two sprees.
Because a AAA title developer like 343 industries does not think ahead that people might be able to get Killing Frenzies.
Just like they expect from us to keep holding out the empty Rocket Launcher to confirm the kill progresses towards the challenge. They don’t expect us to most likely immediately swap to the secondary weapon as a save precaution.
There’s so many minor things wrong in this game which makes me confused how they didn’t think of such things…
I heard some of the OG Halo devs came back from Bungie to work on Infinite, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the person in charge was the OG Bungle master themselves, king of oversights and poor decisions. I know for a fact that games go through a lot of feedback and discussion meetings, so whoever was in charge just stubbornly bombed everything with a veto. Infinite is painfully Destiny 3.
I agree OP.
I was 2/5 Killing sprees and got a Killing Frenzy. After learning what you did, after earning my next Killing Spree I had to go out of my way to end it early so I didn’t earn a Frenzy again and instead would get a spread.
A buddy of mine kept jumping off the map or letting himself get killed until he got anything decent, because he was raging after 2 hours of this challenge. I got the challenge as a normal and ultimate challenge, so I had to do 10 sprees. Luckily, I don’t get mad easily, but I can imagine this challenge made a lot of players play very toxic
The criteria is literal. Ten kills grants a different accolade entirely. The challenge is tracking the accolade. Annoying, but I doing what it’s supposed to be doing.
The thing that annoys me is when stats don’t track at all. Needing 5 kills with fusion coils, only to get two “Kong” medals yet only one kill tracked. Headset kills sometimes not tracking, etc.
There is tuning needed, 343i is aware and has admitted as much. It’ll likely be something that gets updated persistently like most games as service features do.
the game was not made with passion, by gamers. it’s a product to be consumed for the purpose of extracting money created and directed by an executive wishing to please shareholders and meet yearly marketing beats. you don’t see such development oversights by people that actually played the game.
Report it as a bug using the support tab on the top of the page. MCC counts killing frenzy as 2 killing sprees, so maybe they just messed up.
