How the Halo 4 Battle Rifle will work

Check it out here.

If you can’t watch the video, I will summarise a few points…

What we know about the H4 BR:

  • It has hit-scan, which for you non-nerds out there means that your bullets will instantly travel to your target, meaning that it’s less effected by connection issues, and you don’t have to lead your shots like you did in Halo 3 and Combat Evolved.

  • It has recoil, which means that when you fire your reticle will move upwards.

  • It is has no bloom, which means that you can fire as fast as you like and you’ll have no penalty to accuracy. So, it won’t be like Halo: Reach where you fire your DMR and your cross-hair will expand, and any subsequent shots will have a penalty to accuracy.

  • There will be other single-shot precision weapons in addition to the three-shot-burst Battle Rifle.

> Frank has said that the recoil will be ‘predictable and supressible’ so I imagine it will be like Halo 2/3 BR in that your aim will rise slightly on firing.

What we don’t know:

  • There are no specifics as to how exactly the recoil will behave. As said in the video, it could either act like Call of Duty, where the recoil is random and may even travel off to the side, or it will act like the Halo 2 SMG where the recoil will travel upwards 100% of the time in a predictable fashion.

Hopes for the Halo 4 BR:

  • Hopefully the BR has a recoil similar to the Halo 2 SMG, since it adds more skill to the BR as players have to constantly adjust their aim after each burst. This makes the BR fit into the classic mid-range role, where players will have to have precise aim to be able to fire consistently at long-range.
  • This means there can hopefully be an additional single-shot precision weapon that can be used for long-range encounters, so players aren’t spawned with a BR that’s perfect at all ranges, one of the main complaints about the BR in previous Halo games.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you learned something. Feel free to discuss!

Hit scan burst fire.

Not only this  Maybe actually read the thread or watch the video?

I’m tired i read the title wrong -.-

lol, easy mistake to make :stuck_out_tongue:

DMR.

Hopefully yes, maybe not. I would love a bloom-less DMR, but I just think it would be a huge break in canon, since it wasn’t in Combat Evolved, Halo 2 or Halo 3.

So the UNSC/Marines/whoever makes the weapons just decided to downgrade weapons? Herpdefuckingderp.

I just watched the Making of video and there was no recoil on the BR…

I don’t want recoil. Spartans are stronger than ordinary humans, so they can keep it right.

I beg to differ

I can’t see any… the gif needs to be slown down.

Agreed, also, we dont know if this is his aim moving upward’s or the recoil, the gun obviously kicks, but i dont see much reticule movement other than what seems like the player’s natural aim. I’m really twitchy with the sniper and final headshot on precision weapons, I twitch up from the body real fast, so idk.

It was even confirmed in the Q/A on a Weekly Update that the BR has recoil…

Since when did spartans develop arthritis?

Spartans can flip tanks but can’t handle a little recoil. Logic.

Frank has said that the recoil will be ‘predictable and supressible’ so I imagine it will be like Halo 2/3 BR in that your aim will rise slightly on firing.

Thanks for the info, I’ll add it to the OP.

I’m just hoping it doesn’t act like the recoil of the SMG. If the recoil resets at the rate of fire it sounds like it will work, because you’ll still have to control the kick in order to hit all three shots in the burst.

Actually if you read the last bulletin they address recoil and state that recoil WILL BE PREDICTABLE, and not random.

If you didn’t see the recoil, you’re blind.

If no one noticed, its got 64 bullets per clip/magazine .
