So, Spartan Ops has been compared to a TV season. Well, there should be other TV shows to watch right? I think 343 should add in Spartan Ops DLC that tells different stories throughout the Halo Story. Once you pay for the DLC, each week a new “Episode” would be released. We could even find out through stories and play as different characters, such as Thel 'Vadam, or even Chief on one of his older missions. What do you guys think?
This is exactly what I’m hoping they do. There is a TON of potential here. They could literally do just about any encounter or battle from any of the previous novels, comics, etc.
Sigma Octanes IV anyone?
I think it’s a great idea, and Hell yeah first poster I’m up for some^
This is what I’m thinking. There’s so much more of the Halo Universe we’ve not explored in the games.
I think what they are trying to do is connect the Spartan IV’s to the Halo 4 campaign. Spartan Ops will probably reveal why the UNSC started training Spartan IV’s, and how the “threat” that master chief is facing is affecting earth and human colonies. i also think that Halo 5 will bridge the 2 together, so pretty much spartan ops, i think, is the story in between halo 4 and halo 5. idk just speculation
spartan ops DLC is free XD

Just read the article you posted the link to. I found something very disheartening.
A direct quote from the article - “A modest touch, this, but Halo 4’s cinematic direction is a lot less disruptive. A majority of cutscenes take place in first-person, and you’ll retain control (over the camera, for instance) during certain chinwags.”
343. Really. I am very saddened by the fact that I am slowly losing faith and excitement for Halo 4. Some of the cutscenes are in first-person, and will be “less disruptive”. These “disruptive” cutscenes are WHAT I PLAY THE GAME FOR. Damn, if I wanted to play an action movie I would have bought COD. Halo has arguably the richest, most in-depth story EVER told in a video game series. I would MUCH rather watch a 10 minute long cutscene in 3rd person than watch a COD inspired action sequence. GET IT TOGETHER 343!!! STOP COPYING COD!!!
well… i like where they are going with that honestly. they are trying to get the player more involved in the story. and i dont think it’s going to be action oriented like you think. it will probably help settle the mood when you think about it.
I posted a topic similar to this so I will just C&P it… The topic was called Spartan Ops = Black Team???
> Now with the announcement of Spartan Ops being a “separate story-centric campaign for four players. It presents objective-based missions and cinematics, both of which will be added weekly to expand on Spartan Ops’ story.”
>
> Now with it being 4 Spartans I think it would be perfect if the Spartans depicted would be Black Team since this team conducted a bunch of missions since they were an unconventional warfare unit. Plus they were given Advanced Prototype Armor that was incorporated into Mark VI so it would make sense if they came back they would again get the advance armor (maybe Mark VII like Naomi).
>
> Now is this what is going to happen? No, we will prob get Spartan IV’s on missions which I think is a mistake, personally the Multiplayer aka Infinity is perfect for these guys to have canon. So let’s make canon for new characters in game (Black Team has canon in comics) and this would be perfect.
>
> Now I would like to take a step further but it wouldn’t happen but instead of making it 4 player co-op missions what I think they should do is missions that varied b/w 2-4 people like where you have in Firefight (you can play single, doubles, or with a team of 4). And I would like to see different characters in these Spartan Ops and not just the same, like I would like to see a 2 man mission and the characters for these story line would be Spartan III’s Headhunters, and a 3 man mission consisting of Grey Team, and then like I said previously 4 man missions with Black Team. Sure you can throw in Spartan IV’s but if the MM/Infinity storyline is the reason why they are fighting it’s because they are training. My thought is if they are still training then why put them in a mission that’s important when you have these other proven assets at your disposal.
>
> Now if I had a Wish List, one of the things is that this happens and another scenerio I would like to see is ODST’s conducting missions which changes tactics b/c if you remember in Halo: ODST you die quicker b/c no shields so doing some missions as ODST’s would change things up.
>
> Will this happen? No, we will get Spartan IV’s which is a shame b/c by doing this you can add so much more character/canon to existing characters to add more background to them.
Personally Spartan IV story should stay to Infinity/MM and expand on other characters established. I won’t mind some Spartan IV storylines but mix things up and add different characters like Spartan II’s/III’s, Headhunters, Orion, ODST’s. With different characters comes diff strats and gameplay
Excellent Idea, OP, I think this is a problem with co-op modes like spec-ops and horde mode. While they fit in the fiction, they have none of their own. Adding story arcs to a co-operative wave or objective based game type is an intriguing idea, and seems to suit the idea of DLC quite well.
Alan Wake played with the idea of having each part of the game be an “episode”, and other games have started to do this more and more. It’s refreshing to me that I can have little arcs within the larger scope of the story in Halo 4, whatever it may be. Sometimes I don’t want a 10 hour epic sic-fi fantasy, just a short 3 hour arc that focuses on co-op, and this will hopefully scratch that itch.

> I saw this and agree. The best part I loved about Halo was playing 30 to 40 mins on Heroic/Legendary and being able to sit the controller on the ground and just watch the cutscenes and enough the break. Now I have move/look around during the cinematic scenes. Don’t get me wrong there are some scenes that will be good for like when Noble 6 was riding in the warthog and you see the banshees coming and you stry to jump the bridge…those are fine and I think perfect for cinematics for beginning of the levels but at the ends I want to see Master Chief not see what he sees
They can have dlc missions where you play as a Forerunner on Requeim before the activation of the rings and your fighting flood or something like that
I just hope that spartan ops missions can be customized, and I hope that at least a few of the mission (maybe total of 3-5 out of 20+ missions would be fine, we don’t need many as long as they are good) are good old defense missions. Kind of like firefight but with more objectives to them. I played another game recently (a slightly older game) that had a mode almost exactly like firefight, but there was a specific point you had to defend (kind of like generators but less easy to loose, as they had to capture it, not destroy it) and there were other quasi-random objectives that scored you points and other bonuses if you completed them, but doing so made defending harder because you had to move away from the primary objective to complete them. I think something like that could actually be fitting for certain spartan ops scenarios. Not every spartan deployment is offensive in nature, and i think this would be really cool for the firefight fans (like myself). What do you guys think?

YESSSS like you can have a defend a facility or base and you have to protect certain areas and if the enemies capture that area they can break through the barriers and get to the centre where there is like a core or VIP and if they blow it up or kill the VIP you lose or something like that
DarkSilver ME3 had that and I kind of liked it where the objective is to kill all the bad guys and in some waves, you had to retrieve 4 different data spots, or you had to hack a computer and stand in the area to do it, and then there was where you have to locate 4 targets and kill them, the faster you do these the more points you get it. A change of pace bw just FF but it was on a small map, what I want from Spartan Ops is a little bigger maps where you can move around and it doesn’t seem so cramp or restricted.
I wonder if 343 has implemented this idea? If they haven’t yet they should. I would love to play Spartan ops as perhaps a continuation of characters from past halo games and books. Say perhaps playing as Johnson during Contact: Harvest or The Rookie after the events of ODST. There is lots of potential for this.

I was talking about Section 8 Prejudice (actually a bit newer than i thought, haha). I didn’t mean have the maps be small and cramped, but just a few missions, or even parts of those missions, could involve a fire-fight like scenario where you have other objectives than just killing the enemies/surviving. Kind of like the section of PoA in reach right before the mac gun, except with some extra challenges tossed in, like the enemy would actually be trying to get to the Mass Driver’s power supply to disable it, so you had to defend it. Realistically the enemy would have an objective, not just charge the player’s position. So you would have to counter it.
I would also say have the missions change slightly depending on the number of players. some things would be really hard for a person playing solo, bout would be awesome if you have 3-4 players, like one person has to use an AA turret, and the other players have to defend them. playing solo those other enemies could make the mission real difficult, so maybe solo you only have to worry about using the turret (AI assistance, maybe?) or maybe an AI takes the turret and you have to defend them (kind of like Emile in PoA except the enemies you are fighting are trying to kill Emile)
Ive always liked defense missions in games, not just FPS but also Strategy, where you have to hold out for a certain about of time and possibly even have side objectives. I also would like them to be challenging, yet possible. I like the ability to change firefight in Reach to make it harder in certain ways, while balancing them out in your own way. Most defense missions once you find a good strategy, the mission becomes too easy.
They could even use it for fanfic contests.
I personally want to see Jun´s end, and this is the perfect chance for it…
