I would prefer that John dies at the end of Halo 6, but he needs an epic death.
What death do you think would fit a Spartan like Spartan-117?
sacrificing himself and end up becoming an AI with cortana living with each other forever in a room that is locked from the outside
> sacrificing himself and end up becoming an AI with cortana living with each other forever in a room that is locked from the outside
Did you get that from TNG?
Critically wounded and carried off into a white light by the Forerunners never to be seen again. Ever.
No, it needs to be truly epic death in every sense of the word; An arrow to the knee XD
For real though, why kill him? John is “the” spartan, and really killing him off would just give us another generic spartan character voiced by a new voice actor, doing the same thing as the old. I prefer the current spartan ^^
We’ll risk another Reach or even CoD if they start killing off characters just because it’s “cool”.
Deaths do happen in video games, but when they do, during cut-scenes and/or relate to important characters, they got to matter a lot!
See Gears 3 for example of a “Death done Right”, then look at Reach or CoD to see “Deaths done wrong”.
There is no need to decide “hey, it’s the end of a trilogy, let’s kill off some major character”. That’s just making the story predictable and boring, not to mention glorifying self-sacrifice and suicide for a “greater cause”, which we’ve had way to much of IRL lately. I rather see our hero survive against all odds (Sgt Johnson from pre Halo 3), it makes the Hero even more heroic and less human.

After defeating an enemy that threatens the universe at the end of Halo 6, then what? Anything after that would just be beating a dead horse.

Makes me think of the Matrix, personally I’d like him to be infected and his last act finish defeating the Flood once and for all (which on some level could b e Matrix-ish as well but I feel the Flood should some how involve his demise.)
He won’t die. He will just be missing in action.
> He won’t die. He will just be missing in action.
Spartans never die? If only that were true.
I personally would prefer that he stay alive, but outside the reach of humanity, similar to Halo 3. Yes, a sequel to Halo 3 is nice, but I would have been equally content if our last shot of the Chief is him floating towards a mysterious planet. I think something similar to Dom’s death from Gears of War 3, but on a much grander scale, would be more adequate for someone of his stature. Then again, we have already lost everyone else; Miranda and Jacob Keyes, Johnson, Leeory Jenkins…I dont think the loss of another central person is what this series needs.
I dont know what the future holds, or what it should, but it certainly holds something, and I cant wait to meet it.

I’ll admit, I cried when Dom died.
OT: I totally agree. 343i said that they are making this trilogy because they have a story to tell and that story is what I’m looking forward to the most in Halo. Whether John dying is in that story I don’t know. But if he does, you should play it.
I hope that he has Cortana in his helmet when he dies. Maybe something like he’s running a frigate into the doomsday device that I’m sure will be featured in Halo 6. He is sitting in the command chair of the ship watching his death come into him. He tells Cortana he loves her then they both die together when the ship crashes.

He doesn’t love Cortana.

Can’t tell if trolling or serious. I assume you are being mature and serious, like all Halo fans.
I agree, this poetic, sad, and beautiful, but for the Chief, this is completely out of character. He never displays emotion for events exactly like this: he can’t stand losing his men. Cortana is one of his greatest friends, and he couldnt bear to lose her.
> He doesn’t love Cortana.
I’m pretty sure he loves her. He just loves duty and the UNSC more. So he hides his overall emotions for her.
If she were to die, I’m sure he’d flip, Spartan training or not.

You can care for someone yet not love them in the way you’re thinking. He showed his emotions when Linda was critically wounded, yet we know he isn’t in love with her.

Yes but he’s about to die. If he’s alone and he’s helpless to do anything I’m sure he might display SOME emotions. What about something Soloish. Cortana says she loves him and he just replies “I know.”

That would be terrible. If that was how it ended, I would abandon Halo forever (at least until it was retconned).
Perhaps, for the final mission of Halo 6, you don’t play the Chief. Perhaps, there’s another Doomsday weapon that needs to be stopped, and Cortana has the way to shut if off. The Chief, traveling with a Spartan IV, sacrifices himself, handing responsibility to stop said doomsday weapon and Cortana, to said S-IV. The final mission see the S-IV taking Cortana to a control room. Once there, Cortana chooses to remain behind to oversee the destruction of the doomsday weapon, and you, now a lone Spartan, must escape the destruction of the weapon.
For me, that’s be a fitting end to the trilogy.
