How should Infinite begin after Discover Hope?

How does everyone think Infinite’s opening mission should be? As in post the last trailer we’ve seen (Discover Hope) because it’s the opening cutscene. I’ve seen a compelling theory and argument for it being Chief fighting a guardian. I personally think that would be really awesome and set the game to come out swinging. Not to mention I think Chief being able to take one down would help offset the feeling of an unwinnable conflict in Halo 5 to the “Hope” theme that’s been being built up for Infinite. Anyway, tell me what you think. Have a different take on my thoughts or have a different theory or idea of your own?

Pelican is attacked by a Guardian then crash lands on Halo. Something along those lines.

The Halo ring was partially destroyed (fired?).

The pelican was EMP’d, then locked in a white forcefield. Maybe the pelican also had a bright white light shining on it. This seems guardian-ish, but it also looks kinda like the armor lock from Halo 5, so maybe it’s UNSC. Or maybe they were hit by something (anything really) and the pelican’s shields came online? Do pelicans have shields like that?

Brohammer said “not again, we need to run”, but earlier he assumed that by saving Chief they’d end up going home. Or maybe it was simply powering up the pelican that brohammer was excited about…

Master Chief put his weapon away when the pelican door opened, but says they need to fight (not run).

Maybe they were found by allies, but brohammer doesn’t want to go back to war? He was looking at a hologram of his wife for months.

If it’s a guardian, i don’t see how chief could defeat it simply by jumping out of the pelican with an AR… If it’s some other enemy, they didn’t line up a trajectory for chief to jump, so he’s not really aiming for any particular target. It must be allies, right?

I’ve been speculating this myself. How will Infinite make its opening and transition from cutscene to gameplay at the beginning??

One of my favorite cutscenes in ALL Halo games was when the drop pod left the Pillar of Autumn and landed on Halo. The Brothers in Arms music combined with the cinematography, gave off the “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” vibe. In a way, it made me question the future of humanity. It made me question mankind’s past.

I hope Infinite does something similar to that. Have the Pelican descend onto on Zeta Halo in such a powerful way. With amazing music and cinematography.

I also thought about adding an interesting dimension. Not sure if this is accurate for the lore of Halo. But what if the Pilot NEVER landed on a Halo ring before???

Imagine the Pilot taking his FIRST step on a Halo ring. Imagine the room for character dimensions and development! Imagine what Chief would do and say.

Unfortunately, it’s too late for 343 to change anything now.

But, I do have Hope that the landing of Zeta Halo to be a moment of reflection for us as a species.

I wanna see Chief jump onto a Banished cruiser. Or maybe the Pelican was already tractor beamed inside a cruiser’s hangar.

Osiris and Blue Team take separate ships to land on new Halo ring. Upon approaching the planet’s surface, Osiris’ ship is shot down and never seen again. They’re never spoken of again either aside for maybe one “they didn’t make it”.

Once Blue Team lands, Fred makes some wise-crack “I think we’re gonna sit this one out. You got this Chief.” Frame pans left as rest of Blue Team gets back on ship and gradually hones in on back of Master Chief’s right shoulder and into first-person perspective. Then you start playing as Chief…for the rest of the game.

That would do just fine for me

I have a feeling chief jumping out out of the pelican in space isn’t in the full game. Probably just a trailer edit. Maybe even the pelican getting EMP’d isn’t a real thing either. I could imagine them crash landing or landing on the halo ring depending on which thing actually happens.

We will most likely see Master Chief and the Pelican Pilot land on the Zeta Halo Ring at the start of Halo Infinite. I think they are trying to find any survivors from the UNSC Infinity ship on the Zeta Halo Ring.

I’m sure it’s already been stated the Discover Hope trailer is part of the opening cinematic, or something like that. I’ll link it if I remember where I saw it.

Yes it is. I know. But it makes no sense for chief to jump out just like that. Maybe he does idk, but I feel that cutscene was edited to be in trailer format, with a big build up at the end for the title to display.

I don’t think they would say it was part of the opening cinematic if only part of it was, but you never know. Also, it’s not the first time the he’s jumped out of a spaceship. It would be a good wow moment for new players and something familiar for veterans of the series.

trailers are snippets of movies and they get changed all the time. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.

I wouldn’t mind a Halsey narrated prologue to precede the cutscene as she narrated both 4&5’s prologues. Having her narrate a prologue for Infinite would make sense. But maybe they’re trying out something else narratively. If they’re going for a Halo CE feel, then maybe the cutscene we saw is how it starts, no prologue and jumps us right into the action.

I’m really curious as to how they plan to structure the game. As John exits the Pelican to a blinding flash of light we could be treated to a “3 Weeks Ago” type time jump where we play and get to see how Zeta gets damaged and how John ends up floating in space.
Alternatively John could jump out of the Pelican and board an enemy ship whether that be a Guardian or Banished Cruiser. Bungie’s original plan for Halo 2 was to have John board the Covenant ship after jumping out of Cairo station. 343i have a history of using Bungie’s scrapped ideas, so a “Covenant Ship” style mission is possible.

Perhaps John jumps out and lands inside a Covenant/banished ship, fights in there, sets it to blow up by damaging the engine core, Brohammer picks him up in the docking bay and they barely escape the explosion, the already damaged Pelican gets hit by the shockwave And they crash on the ring.

Arby, Chief, and Buck have a dance-off to see who becomes the star of Halo: Infinite. My money is on Buck!

I know discover hope is supposed to be the opening cutscene but I’m betting we will at least get a prologue cutscene before. Something to bridges the gap between halo 5 and halo infinite. As for what happens after discover hope, I think it will involve a guardian and I like your idea of chief fighting a guardian immediately.

Time jump backwards: “2 Years Ago…”

Chief boarding a guardian and blowing it up from within. Then landfall on Halo with either brohammer or the guardians wreckage

I’d like if it transitioned into a mission set several days/weeks prior to the events of the opening, then we could get an idea of what happened to the ring, and a reason for why John was just floating aimlessly through space. Then the mission after that could take place in the present day, just as our protagonists are pulled back onto the ring.

Not always. A trailer ia a way to give advaned publicity to a game, film or tv show. The film Hannibal had promtional trailers in 2001 that were just dialogue with a dark screen and ended with “Hannibal Coming Soon”. There were no snippets at all. The Discover Hope trailer is part of the opening cinematic of Halo Infinite it is not snippets edited as a traditional trailer, it is part of the game being used as a trailer. That’s why I can’t see any of it not being in the game. We will know soon enough.

On the topic of the thread ? I don’t know how it should begin, all I want is a good Halo game.

I can imagine the campaign starting with John hopping off the pelican and landing on some enemy ship of sorts where he battles his way out of a mess to give him and the pelican pilot a little breathing room. Later, I can imagine them deciding to travel back to the damaged Installation 07 to see if they can try turn the tide of whatever battle occurred prior since it seems to have left such a profound impact that John was out in space and the pilot initially claimed they lost everything.
