I thought I would take the time to explain how req packs work because some here seem confused about them… first req packs are 100% optional to buy with real money. You get the same dice roll stuff weather with points or money. These promotional packs are over priced and not worth it unless you are absolutely dying for the few cosmetics. You can and will get those cosmetics in regular gold or silver packs eventually or even right away if you have everything unlocked and a lot cheaper than that promotional pack. I see some complaints “I didn’t get the phaeton variant in my reach pack” well oh course you didn’t… It clearly says you will get the armor.
Stay on regular packs. Get your bronze, then silver’s when silver’s give back two 1500 req point cards you are done… then on to golds when golds are done they give you back two 3000 point req cards. So once you have everything unlocked golds only cost 4000 req points and it’s way easy to build points and inventory. Never buy packs with money until you have unlocked all silver and bronze packs that way you get a lot better chance of getting the good stuff for your money. Stuff like the H2BR and the phaetons are towards the end of the gold pack road.
Anyways I hope this helps some one out there that took the time to read this. Just because a “temporary pack” is out that doesn’t mean you have to buy it to get the cosmetics for the monthly update. All it is is a overpriced short cut to get the monthly stuff quicker. It’s not worth it IMO… stick to the pack grind and you will get the monthly update cosmetics and weapons sooner or later. Now there are some temporary packs that may offer cosmetics that are exclusively for that temporary pack, such as the HCS pack, but they tell you if it is… don’t get those mixed up with the update packs… there is a difference.
I will also add this… warzone turbo is not a scam and no 343 doesn’t FORCE you to burn your reqs… They don’t even force you to play that game type. If you don’t like it or don’t want to use your reqs for it then don’t play it. That simple. Some of us with extensive req collections love a place to burn them.
Halo should be fun… play the game mode you like the best… If Halo is feeling like work then you may want to look into another game… I LOVE Halo… and love H5 and every other game that has to do with Halo. Most, including myself, are very passionate about Halo so I understand the ups and downs. Try to concentrate on the ups more so than the downs and you may just enjoy it a bit more.
Truth. I have yet to spend any real money on reqs, and still have a ton of fun. Thankfully unlocks should be a lot easier now with the update to the gold and silver packs not counting emblems as your perms.

Should have added that as well. Them changing the emblems is great news.
the only thing I would add onto this is when people complain that req packs aren’t showing grinding or playtime. actually it does, more playtime= more req points = more packs you buy. as you buy more you get rid of the common-rare reqs. leaving only the ultra rare and legendary stuff to remain. towards the end you will start getting the really good/ rare items. kind of like halo reach and halo 4. the more you play the more available the rare items become. people complain that the new armor is hard to get and theyre a 70. I’m sorry but 70 is only like a major in comparison to the halo reach ranks. 70 isn’t even half way. you achieve all armor around 110-120 and I didn’t spend a single penny. that’s not bad at all. These items are mythic for a reason, if they were meant to be easier to get, theyd be rare or lower, but then they wouldn’t be that special now would they. those saying that grinding for req points isn’t working and its not rewarding…didn’t you have to grind for credits, thousands to even millions, in halo reach just to achieve that ONE piece of armor you wanted? in halo 5 you get only 10k points (and that’s for a gold) to get 1-3 permanent items, from weapons, to armor, and emblems. not bad at all. I personally like this way.
Thank you! Clear and concise way of explaining REQ packs.

Same for me although the grind was real, but making it to the end by grinding req point after req point made it all the more worth it.
Yeah I should mention you get packs for daily wins in warzone and arena, for promotions in xp rank and commendations so go for those as well. They all add to your req points and inventory… I once got two phaetons in my forerunner destroyer pack… also always always use your req boost and jack pots when you get them. They still give more if you use them than sell them.
I hate seeing people talk here as if they will miss out on the reach stuff if they don’t buy the reach pack and that is not the truth at all.

> I hate seeing people talk here as if they will miss out on the reach stuff if they don’t buy the reach pack and that is not the truth at all.
theyre really not. its simple, play, earn points, buy packs. people always want a shortcut to the extremely rare armor…sorry but I don’t remember a shortcut to the security armor in reach, that wont happen here either. I was so happy to hear the Memories of Reach req pack was an overpriced $15
I have opened maybe one Bronze pack in my life while also i have only opened like 3 silver pack. I have though opened like 200 gold packs and right now i say i have pretty good stuff…i have the ultra banshee the nicest wrath and i have the phaeton. Actually last night i spent 21,000 and i got great stuff i got blood of suban i got the phantom and i got a bunch of other stuff.
PS i am level 107
I’m fairly certain that people understand buying REQs is optional. The problem is that because of the RNG in place it is impossible to “aim” for anything. If your goal is to collect everything and get 100% completion then you are fine. Do like you said, Bronze then Silver then Gold. If you don’t care about 90% of the stuff though, and only want certain items, that’s where the REQ system heavily pressures you into paying real money. There is a reason that the Memories of Reach pack is being sold. It’s because 343i knows that the system they created forces people to grind, and if you don’t want to play for possibly thousands of hours to get the Emile armor set you can just throw a couple bucks their way.
If you don’t have thousands of hours of free time but want to access the content in game it is impossible. In previous games you could have a set goal and do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. Halo 5 has none of this. This is what people are frustrated with, and it is intentionally made to be frustrating. So while you are right, 343i doesn’t force you to do anything, they very obviously pressure you into paying for stuff.
The Memories of Reach pack isn’t that bad. The worst example of this is the weapon skin pack from a couple of weeks ago. They put the 343i skins in there knowing that most people would have to pay to get them. There was no way that most people could grind for the hundreds of thousands of RP needed to get those skins. That is as close as possible to forcing people to buy them as they have ever gotten. A random chance inside of a higher priced pack is the worst thing they could of done. Worse yet, the other skins in that pack are a huge portion of the MoR update, meaning that anyone that bought them for the chance at the limited edition 343i skins is not getting this update for “free.” The entire thing is super slimy.
My favorite part though is that I have a buddy that is a huge Reach fan, but doesn’t like Halo 5 that much. He said that he would happily pay for the Emile armor set, but because he can’t get it without either getting very lucky or spending huge amounts of money he just said -Yoink- it and isn’t going to do anything. Their REQ system actually stopped him from giving 343i money. I love it.

You can unlock stuff any way. They reqs seem to be random… but the cheapest point wise and fastest way to unlock everything is go from bronze, silver to gold… yeah getting golds right away you may get some good stuff right away but you will also get lower tier stuff in an expensive point pack

Yes i agree with you 100% its very annoying seeing people complain about the req system because its random yes i do understand its quite frustrating but halo 5 has the best microtransaction system out of any game.In halo 5 you have a guarantee to get two permanent items while in black ops 3 can give you worthless common items and duplicates and have a slight chance to get a weapon and takes around 2 hours to get a rare supply drop while in halo you can get 2 golds in that time usually.Don’t even get started with destiny because you need to pay 5 dollars for a dumb cosmetic dance or get a chance to get taken armour.
You know, 343i really needs to sticky this to the top of these forums, and maybe then we’ll stop seeing the endless “I DIDNT GOOD REQ, 343I BAD GAME!”
I know it is true that the packs are free, but the microtransaction system still rewards those with money over those who play the game ( IN MY OPINION!! gotta plaster that everywhere). If the system rewarded more points per match, I would have less of a problem with the transacting portion of the system. I still hate MTs, I find them shady as hell, and greedy, but if I was rewarded more points per match, I would not be as vocally against it.

If it helps them pump out content, I think its good
I got 2 Phaetons in my free Reach Update pack. I’ve heard people for armor, or Phaetons, or armor and the Brute Rifle.
I wish they had achievements and rank armour unlocks like the classic halo games the req pack system is ok but I liked it when I looked it up and tried my best to unlock the armours. For example Eva in halo 3 without it I would not have played halo 3 on the normal difficulty when I first got the game.

Players aren’t rewarded by money imo… there is no prize or achievements or anything by locking stuff with money over points. Yeah they may get to use certain weapons sooner but that is it. They get nothing special. The H5 system is the best system as absolutely zero game changing content is behind a pay wall… every one gets all content regardless if they spend zero dollars on reqs or if they spent hundreds on reqs.
What was shady… or complete BS… was back in the day bungie had a reach map pack that I guess not a lot bought so like six months later they simply took them away… They didn’t put the maps into rotation or anything. That map pack playlist had a low population so they just took back the maps… no refunds or anything… that was LAME… so yeah I am against map packs now.

All I can say is…Thank you. So many threads about REQs. I think they should link them here!!
