I ask this because every time I come across some god player it’s a new XBL account with like a game score under 1200 and they have like 12 friends.

- No one had modded the xbox one yet. So no aimbots, no hacking, or the like.
- There are glitches in the game that people can abuse that is cheating, most of these involve getting out of the map.
- I’m guessing you’re seeing people who are either A: Just better than you (happens to me all the time) or B: Are sock/smurf accounts. This is a system where good players with low self esteem create secondary accounts in order to play against players of far lower skill level.
The narrow definition of “cheating” that Microsoft and 343 have espoused Is a reflection of both the anonymous nature of the internet and todays extremely PC culture.
IRL you cannot put on a costume or a mask in order to compete in a game. First person competitions come with personal responsibility for behavior. In contrast, the perceived anonymity of online gaming assigns no personal responsibility and encourages less ethical individuals to participate in all sorts of behaviors that would punish or exclude them from participation in events that monitor the actual identity of their participants. Many of those behaviors are outside of the common definition of cheating when it comes to video games.
No industry wants large numbers of it’s customers labeled as cheaters. Calling a spade a spade is frowned upon in todays society and bad for the bottom line. The success of video games of all sorts is built on the idea that players can do things in the game, both virtually and actually, that they could never do or get away with in their real lives. So it’s not too surprising that some individuals do just that. Gaming is an accepted form of escapism. So the powers that be poo poo most cheaters as engaging in instances of “unsporting behavior”.
Microsoft and 343 define modding and hacking as cheating because it alters their own proprietary equipment and negatively affects their bottom line as opposed to negatively impacting the gaming experience of every other player a cheater comes in contact with.
So the answer to your question really hinges on your definition of “cheating”. If you define it as “purposely employing a strategy or style of gameplay that gives you a known unfair advantage” then it’s pretty prevalent and some of it is built into the game.
There are players and even whole Spartan Companies built on the idea of fun and fair play. Joining one of those companies or having a group of like minded individuals with whom you party up with for custom games is one way to better ensure the kind of experience you will enjoy. Matchmaking is a roll of the dice.
There is cheating. I brought one site to 343i attention a little while ago who were offering aim bot hacks for Halo 5 for a fee. The site was later shut down

Likely a fake / scam service. The Xbox One has not been modified in any way yet, as such it’s currently not possible to mod games or run any unsigned code. Until that happens there will be no aimbots in the game. If you think you are experiencing an aimbot, it’s either lag, server issues or connections issues, not someone with a modded game / xbox
I’ve only seen cheating once in Halo 5

Smurf lol. Is that so hard to figure out
There’s cheating I’ve seen guys walk through walls but they’ve seemed to fixed that it was 2 update cycles back or so.

Those weren’t cheating, those were glitches that were exploited.

Should also mention the controller modding thing that seems to be a thing at the moment.
