For a “premium” color that I could mix with normal colors, I would spend a maximum of $1.
No color on this planet is worth more than a front-of-the-store candy bar.

I can’t really get behind paying for a primary color. Those should all be free for every core. No excuse for that. Now coatings with special patterns and designs, meh, like a dollar or two?
Armor? Well, just for an armor set I’d be willing to pay $5, maybe $10. The fact that armor can’t be switched between cores and neither can coatings makes armor a lot less valuable to me. Also, the fact the we don’t have a lot of colors available. If an armor set came with everything including (helmet, chest, shoulders), an emblem, and a coating that can be applied to all armor cores, weapons, vehicles, and emblems, THEN I would be willing to pay $20.
Essentially it is free. If you wanted to get technical you could figure out the cost for just that show by taking the cost per month of the subscription and dividing that by the number of shows/movies you have access to. I bet that comes out to fractions of a cent.
This same logic can be applied to the game pass. Take cost of the subscription and divide it by the number of games you have access to.
What would really light a fire under my butt would be if maybe a year down the road they take Infinite campaign off of the game pass forcing people to buy it. I don’t think they would but I would take back my entire defense at that point.
I won’t spend any money on the shop armour and coatings, they may look cool however there is no achievement behind wearing the gear which I find important, even if it is just playing a lot of matches - it just signals that you have thrown money at the game. When I see other players using shop armour and coatings they just look really lame, especially the samurai sets. If the samurai set was unlocked through achieving something then I would see these players and think “wow, you are cool”, but when I see them knowing that they just threw 50% of a full price game at the shop, they just seem like a doofus to me.
I recognise that my mindset is immature, and I know that people just want their spartan to look pretty regardless of how they obtain the armour and they have every right to spend their money how they see fit, but It just rubs me up the wrong way. I just can’t shake the feeling that the people who buy these armour sets from the shop are strutting around like obnoxious peacocks thinking that everyone is admiring how good they look. It is why I can’t bring myself to spend any money on the sets, I don’t want to be like that.
I also t bag players wearing shop gear hahaha!
$0.
Honestly it is unacceptable. I won’t pay a nickel for armor unless it is in a battlepass I guess, but that is a broken, unsatisfactory, soulless, greedy, weak model as well.
It’s not free though, because you can’t get it without paying. And you wouldn’t buy half the content you watch on subscriptions like Netflix if they sold it for what they’d consider a reasonable price. This is part of why they can get money from you with a subscription based service. Another big reason is that a lot of people straight up wouldn’t buy content from them at all if they didn’t get the service. And that service isn’t as attractive without shows like Squid Game, hence it’s really not free, and it’s making them a lot of money.
Microsoft essentially wants to get in on this same type of money. With games, they can potentially stand to make even more, because a lot of people wouldn’t buy very many games at all. A lot of the gamepass games I know I would never play I didn’t have Game Pass. I just wouldn’t buy them. And I am not alone. Subscriptions aren’t free, they cost money, and they only sell because of Content like Halo Infinite.
There is only 1 i´d pay for…
The majority is worth $0
I mean , it´s just a coulor !!!
They could sell colors for like $1 or $2, but they need to be sold alone without any other bull -Yoink!- , and need to be unique, and im not a real fan of the coatings looking rough and well-worn
Ignoring the fact that colors should be free, I’ll humor the question.
I made a post a few days ago “A lesson in Bundles” that discussed how 343 should rework the store to make it more player friendly, yet make even more money. Using the Anubis Armor Set, I noted that it had 8 items priced for $20. This made each individual piece worth $2.50. I suggested that 343 unbundle the items and sell them at $3 a piece to make the bundle more attractive, but giving options to player who are only interested in select items. This would get players who wouldn’t have spent a cent to more likely consider smaller purchases, while still getting money from whales.
That said $20 bundles for single armor sets are absurd. In truth they should be $5 - $10. Dividing that by 8 you get $.63 - $1.25 per piece. The halfway point would be $1 per piece for an $8 bundle. Keep in mind that you must buy cR from the store and 500 cR or $5 is the minimum that can be bought, so buying an $8 bundle would leave you with 200 cR or $2 left, effectively forcing you to overspend.
tl;don’t like math: $1 is what a single item (in this case, coating) should be worth. Charms, Emblems, and other knickknacks should be worth even less.
They need to sell patterns and armor textures then let players just color them personally, and if they have a coating that uses way more than 3 colors, then sell THAT as a coating with a set primary and secondary. Then sell textures like dirt, mud, shine, plasma burns, sword cuts, bullet holes, etc.
Literally could have a better system that people actually WANT to pay for and make more money doing it.
depends on the coating, there might be one that I cant avoid having, I guess 15 bucks would be a top for a kit of cosmetics.
Wow the texture idea sounds really cool actually, would definetly like to see something like that, doubt we would ever get something like that tho, feel like 343 lacks the creativity that they put into MCC’s recent updates with the armor
I’d be willing to spend every season $1 for a coating, $5 for a full armor set.
I would purchase 2 battle passes each year at $8.
Double these prices and I will only do it once forever.
Any more than double I’ll completely abstain.
I’ll never spend a dime on swaps and boosts.
My purchases would be entirely to support the game, I’ll happily play the game in default armor and colors.
I beg to differ, paying $80 a year to have 100+ games to play seems like a no brainer for me personally. I would have paid $65 to buy this game alone if it wasn’t on game pass so for $15 more dollars a year I get access to all those games whenever I want.
As far as Netflix, paying $10 a month to have all those shows/movies that I do watch also seems like a steal. Going to the movies cost $15 alone and cable costs $70+ a month.
I understand the marketing model Microsoft is using and it’s genius, hence why all the writers have said Xbox was genius for doing it first. Think about the cloud gaming combined with game pass. I look at from a value stand point. We all put different value into our experiences and personally the experiences I get from the game pass greatly out weigh the $80 I pay a year for it.
Yeah it took me like 5 minutes after 343 announced coatings to think of a better system. Astonishing no one there thought thought of it.
all base colors should be free, after that, 3$ at most
coming from warframe, at least 5-10$ “IF” i like the color and it’s for all core, but as it is right now i have zero interest in the cashshop
This is an interesting concept. Of all the F2P games with stores, how many of them keep the items open for purchase forever? Most items you find expire daily, weekly, etc. but eventually make it back around down the road, only to disappear again.
Once they debut something in the store, such as armor coatings, pieces, cores, effects, or whatever, I think it’d be a great idea to have a collection of all the items that were ever offered, available for purchase at any time.
For example: you see the “flaming pants” effect in the store this week but don’t have the money to spend on it. Then, in January (after everyone is broke from Christmas lol) you finally have enough money saved up to purchase the “flaming pants” effect. You go to the store and browse all of the collections to find you effect.
If I could choose what I wanted, I’d spend up to $10USD.
You know what, let’s make it spicier.
Just hopped onto Halo 5 and opened a gold pack. For $3 I got:
For THREE DOLLARS…
Multiply this by 7 so it’s a $21 dollar bundle:
Yes, the packs are random chance, but the numbers are still there. Right now, a visor costs almost as much as a single gold pack in Halo 5. You know, those packs where you could unlock TWO visors at the same time if you rolled the dice right.
I kind of just hate the coatings on a fundamental level. I get they need to make money with a f2p model but there’s weapon skins, vehicle skins, weapon charms, helmets, shoulder pads, chest, knees, and all the other armor attachments. All of that I get monetizing and am okay with it. But locking colors behind a paywall that are armor core specific on top of it just feels like a step too far for me.
