How much will Locke be played in Halo 6?

In Halo 5: Guardians, Locke got the majority of the gameplay to himself, with 12 missions of the 15. This was a point of contention with fans, as this saga is supposed to be John’s personal journey, and he was barely in Guardians. I get the feeling that John will take center stage in Halo 6, with him getting considerably more missions and screen time than Locke. I think Locke will have a more reduced role, more on the lines of going on a mission, while important isn’t as important as John’s. If you had to guess, how much screen time and missions do you think we’ll play as Locke in comparison to John?

I definitely think that after the backlash 343 has had for featuring Locke way more than Chief, they will try and even it out if not give Locke less than Chief.

That’s to say that Locke is even going to be a playable character in Halo 6…
The Arbiter wasn’t in Halo 3.

I don’t think they should freak out and not have him playable at all, just not to much of an extent as John, since the Reclaimer Saga is supposed to be his arc.

yeah you could he was thier in co-op!

honestly i never asked for the guy and back when they called him marlow, i hoped it was a spartan III from the Ghost of onyx book… The more compeleing story is with John, blue team and the love triangle that is him, cortana & halsey. Osiris felt like a arbertary addition to try and show a otherwise unseen perspective of blue team but (ultamtley failing) as these interations are few and far between with the rest of their presence just being padding.

i dont care for the characters of osiris and i wouldnt miss them if theyre not in halo 6 or come to an unfortunat end.

who am i kidding no supporting character dies on screen or at all anymore!

Hopefully, not much.

The Arbiter not being playable hurt Halo 3, IMO. Osiris should remain playable in Halo 6, but they need to balance it out more. There should be an equal number of playable missions between Blue Team and Osiris.

Honestly rather him not in it at all. Make a spin off for him like odst. If I’m going to be playing as anyone else I’d rather it be other members of blue team. The add campaign made me kind of like Locke but then saw Night Fall and that Killed that idea.

I think that Halo 6 will be a story about Chief and Cortana

I hope they kill off the Chief in favor of Locke so that they can just pry off Bungies dead fingers from halo and move on with a better game that revolves more around the universe of halo and no just one old dude that has no attachment to anyone or anything besides an AI that he was secretly in love with.

Locke has much more potential as a developed character than Chief does. Locke is actually a human being that has thoughts and fears, hopes and dreams, vs Chief who only cares about the mission and saving his Fake G/F

HERESY… Locke is a tool and just like Captain America anything special about him came out of a bottle.

That didn’t stop them in Halo 5…

Honestly, I find Locke a superfluous character who contributes nothing to the story and narrative since it is by its very nature centred on Cortana which by extension makes Chief the main character. Locke does not have his own story or even an interesting perspective on these events. In Halo 3 we saw the Arbiter get his revenge and the resolution of his arc as well as the elites in general. Locke has no equivalent narrative to be explored in Halo 6. He is literally dead weight and including him as a playable character makes no sense.

I hope they kill off Locke in the first mission Jul 'Mdama style.

I actually don’t quite mind him being a playable character in 6 though they need to focus more on Chief vs Locke thing they had going on in the trailers ( Never trust a trailer ) because the way they portrayed him after their scuffle ( i refuse to call it a “fight” ) was more or less brown nosing on Locke’s part. And just like they did with the Arbiter they need to show us qualities of Locke that us as fans can relate or at least understand, give us his perspective on his role through the campaign, actually do some character development with him ( This goes as well for Osiris in general, except Buck ) rather than getting him and his team doing cool stuff in cut scenes ( Most notable is the first mission which looked like they were trying to hard to make them look cool especially since the action they did, fighting what appears as a whole army of Covenant can not even be replicated in game. Or yet again Locke killing Jul in a curb stomp fight to make him "Serious Business guys ".

Compare that to Chief and Blue team’s Cut Scene which was more simplistic but still did a better job of showing how badass Blue team was without having to try to hard ( I believe this was done on purpose to put more emphasis on Osiris but had the opposite result )

It is for sure that 343 will continue to push Locke in our faces as he is undeniably a “Creator’s pet” ( Just like how Palmer was but to a more extreme ) however i don’t mind as long as they make him a likable character and not some Mary Sue.

While that would be interesting, we cannot rely on Locke to be the main focus of Halo, that would lead to disaster

How could it of hurt halo 3 when the arbieter was there for every aspect of the narrative from start to finish, evey cut scene assisting John and a vessel for a friend in co-op. Seriously did no one play halo 3 co-op/at all.

You mean the co-op where all of the Arbiter’s in-game dialog is removed because characters don’t talk in first person? Co-op is fun but it actually hurt Halo 3’s story even more because it turned the Arbiter into a silent character like the Chief. There were plenty of times in the game’s single player story where the Arbiter wasn’t with the Chief and it would have been great to follow him when he wasn’t. Halo 2 gave us different points of view and that made for a much better story.

Now if, and I emphasize if, they replace Osiris as a playable team then I think it would be neat if they brought back the Elites. Then we can switch between Blue Team and Swords of Sanghelios.

It would be great fan service to play as those elites, don’t get me wrong, the Arbiter is my main man.

But, even he still has the same issue Lovke has which is that he isn’t connected to the main storyline. Yes, you could make something out of his desire to free his people from Cortana, but that has the problem of being very much Chiefs story. We know that any resolution for that will involve the Chief. Since he killed Truth and has no obvious rival after they killed M Dama he really doesn’t have a lot to do beyond representing the “good elites”; which isn’t a good justification in itself for playing as him. We should be interested in and empathise with his story like we did in Halo 2. But the story as it stands completely does not lend itself to playing as anyone other than Chief.

Actually I think the Arbiter makes a lot of sense. He considers the Chief an honorable warrior and a friend. They fought side-by-side and ended the Prophet of Truth together. The Arbiter assisted the Chief in rescuing Cortana on High Charity and fought beside them both on Installation 04B. He wouldn’t just not help the Chief because he has better things to do. Cortana is now a threat to the entire known Galaxy, which means the Arbiter has a stake in this too and if the Chief is going into battle, so will the Arbiter. Plus the UNSC helped him defeat the Covenant once and for all, even if that was unofficial, and he kind of owes them one. This team up would be yet another example of human-alien cooperation and strengthen ties between the UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios. This unity and friendship is very important going forward, especially if the Flood will be involved. You know, the whole test of the Mantle thing. No one species should own the Mantle and humanity and Sangheili standing together is important for sure.

That justifies his presences as an NPC, but not as a playable character.

The problem with Locke is that he has no personal story, he’s just a Spartan who gets caught up in the Chiefs story. He doesn’t have his own motivation, goal or compelling story. The Arbiter has one in Halo 2 and 3. But the issue with te current story is that it’s focusing on a personal conflict between Chief and Cortana. The arbiter did rescue her, but note that he never actually acknowledges this recognition in 5 and they never even spoke to each other in 3. It’s a weak link, Cortana is just a crazy AI overlord to him. Simply being te Chiefs ally isn’t enough justification for him as a playable character. He would need his own story arc and I don’t see the latitude for that given the current nature of the story where they have pruned the Covenant characters and threat.
