How much does internet quality impact fair ranking

Ive noticed that towards the middle of the day I find myself in many more matches where, as a currently platinum slayer player, I get matched against onyx and, at times, champion players. Needless to say it is immensely frustrating to be deranked for
loosing against someone far above you in the system. However, I rarely have these issues at night when my internet isn’t being used. While I’m pretty sure I know the answer purely by that reasoning, I decided I would ask here to confirm if this is the case.

Should I simply refrain from playing ranked earlier in the day?

Your internet shouldn’t be a huge factor in who you are matched against. It’s your matchmaking rating (or MMR) that determines who you are playing with. For example, let’s say your MMR sees you as a regular Platinum player, and a good one at that. With that in mind, there is an increased chance you’ll face other players of similar performance based on yours.

It’s not too uncommon for a Platinum player to encounter some Onyx / Champion players in ranked, so you shouldn’t be too alarmed at this.

> I’m honestly not sure if that is the case in this situation to be honest. I haven’t played this game in months and have become extremely rusty. As is such I am sure that my MMR has gone down (I just recently was able to climb back to platinum). I was recently matched against a champion level player with a rank well into the 2000s. There is no way that I was paired up in this situation based on a similar MMR.

Technically yes. It shouldn’t factor big unless you are running extremely bad connection during the day
It’s because if you can’t connect to certain groups of people which are your rank it’ll match you based or connection. But I doubt diamonds and onyx are the only people with bad connection lol so who knows

I probably should have mentioned the longer than usual wait times

Connection affects how you play but not who you play ! The longer wait times are to do with how many people are available around your rank the longer you wait he more likely you are to match up against higher or lower players

Depends on your connection quality probably, But can someone look at this cause idk if its my connection doing it (It never happened to me) (Skip to 17 seconds)

What’s the minimum internet speed you should have then ? And does having a faster internet connection give that player an advantage during the game , obviously I know it will be better for downloading etc but what about gameplay???

On a related note, I found out that if your connection is the one that is suffering, you will be the one impacted negatively. The other day the game seemed to be lagging horribly. I couldn’t even walk without jolting back 5 steps EVERY time. I checked my connection and it was way below normal, about 1 meg up and down. I thought it might be the internet company, but then I found that my power bar (which my modem and router are plugged into) had its plug fall almost completely out of the outlet.
