How many people were still on xbox 360?

I am conflicted on the fact that they are shutting down 360 servers for old halo games. On the one hand people paid money for them and it sucks that they will no longer be able to play them.

On the other hand, i am not one of those people. I play mcc for all my old halo games. So i am also glad because those people will now have to come to mcc to play those games which means better matchmaking times and balance.

But i wonder how many people were still playing the 360 version of these games and do you guys think there will be a somewhat significant increase in the mcc playerbase due to those being shut down?

I’m one of those people who wished that they would have kept the 360 versions up, even without the multiplayer functions. I would like them to be preserved in digital format.

I’m not sure if the old servers being taken down will add much population to MCC. There are “ways” (not mentioning them here, might be against TOS) to just connect directly to your friends via LAN Tunneling (no official servers required). There are plenty of Discord groups that still play the OG Halo: CE and 2 (on Xbox) using these methods, so I suspect any fans still playing the OG versions of 3, ODST, Reach, and 4 will just migrate over to using those same methods.

On a more meta note, I would be careful about posting these kinds of topics that pertain to the Original Versions on the MCC Forum. Unless something has changed (and if so, please let me know), the moderators would prefer you to post those kinds of things on the “Other Halo” section. I think you might be fine in this case, because you do mention MCC in your post, but I got a stern warning at one point because I mentioned a certain…“Unofficial” aspect of Halo: Online. Not trying to gatekeep or anything, just looking out for a fellow Spartan.

Ok thanks ill keep that in mind. Yea my topic is still mainly about mcc i think thats really what im concerned with i just want more people to play this game because id much rather play it than infinite

you cant lan over internet for xbox 360 games if your ping is higher than 30 ms or something like that. it was a protection they added to combat the xlink kai and xbox connect tunneling multiplayer and get them to pay for xbox live. it works for original xbox games but not 360.

I mostly played on my 360 for nostalgia’s sake. It’s what I was used to, had good memories. I occasionally hop on MCC but don’t play with others outside of Firefight. So really, this is a net-loss for me personally.

What I know:

  • Halo Reach (Summer 2021-Present) - 400~600+ total player population, on average, as stated at the top of the Matchmaking screen.
(Has also fluctuated as high as 700+ & as low as 200+.
The higher numbers are weekend numbers & the lower numbers are weekday numbers.
Although the total player count from each individual, populated playlist doesn’t even come close to the total count posted at the top of the matchmaking screen, and Idk which numbers are more accurate, so take these numbers with a grain of salt.)
  • Halo 4 (Summer 2021-Present) - Less than 100 to 100+ total
(All individual playlist numbers combined, not including Spartan Ops Matchmaking)
    {Only ever populated on the weekend, though this being the final week, who knows how many will be on.}

Let that inform what the approximate answer could be for your 2nd question (but don’t forget Halo 3 & Halo ODST’s possible numbers; I didn’t include them cause I haven’t checked their numbers).

(Also, you may want to tag this topic with MCC, if it’s your main focus.)

Usually about 800-2000 people playing halo reach is the norm.
According to the matchmaking

There were about 1000 people online today in Halo 3.

Halo 3 typically wavered around 500-1200 concurrent players on a day to day
Today when the servers shut down there was around 1800
