I feel like a lot of people are in for a rude awakening when they play online for the first time. For the first few days.

I did, as a freshman in college. Yes, there might be some issues, and maybe my faith is too high, but I seriously doubt dedicated servers is anything compared to the days of XBC
I was speaking more on the skill gap.
I did but most of my Halo 1 playing was on the PC. The Xbox version’s netcode wasn’t meant to handle high latencies because it was only supposed to be played over system link. I wouldn’t worry though. The updated netcode and dedicated servers will make it run flawlessly.
I have but was never an MP guy So it matters little to me

Gotcha… yes I’m sure that will be the case, but hopefully matchmaking keeps things close and competitive. Like they say, ignorance is bliss
I would def recommend a timer. Looks like a good on on the app stores for ios and android.

Yeah I’ve played a ton of CE on both LAN and XBC. Newer players aren’t going to fond of actually having to aim and lead shots. Timing and grenadine power ups and power weapons will also make newer players struggle. It truly is the most skill based game of the series. Don’t forget about melees as well. No lunging at all.
Look at it like this. Nobody is going to be properly adjusted to Halo CE’s mechanics especially since most games use hitscan which CE didn’t. It’ll be a slaughter fest for the newbies and a laughter fest for the rest of us.
I’ve played every Halo game across every platform, to answer the original poster’s question.
I played on the original Xbox with land parties and all
Yea, I remember playing Xbox Connect Halo CE, with an AOL Dial-Up connection… Those were the days

I actually prefer these mechanics. It’s harder, but it’s more honest … if that makes any sense. There is also backpack reload, don’t forget that.
Can’t say I have, but luckily, there’s 3 other games I know I like.
I agree with OP. HCE is vastly different mechanic wise and the guns are an outlier compared to the other three games. There is no doubt in my mind the skill gap is greatest in this game. To my surprise I learned this the hard way in college haha
The experience I remember is original Xbox splitscreen. Second best multiplayer experience ever behind Perfect Dark N64.
I tried XBC once. Horrendous input lag, never bothered with it again.

land parties? lol I think you mean LAN parties.
not XBC
I did lans for Halo CE though and Halo 2.
Me and a group of regulars played a ton of xbc. As recently as a year or so ago. Host had a major advantage over XBC but it was the only way we could play regularly without setting up lan parties so we still enjoyed it. You just had to learn to compensate for the lag by leading shots more and change tactics slightly to account for the disadvantage. Nothing was more satisfying or inspired more trash talking than beating someone off host.
Halo CE is really the only game most of us played religiously. We still have lans a few times a year. The series went downhill after that game reducing the skill gap and catering more to the casual player and as a result most of us never bothered with the other halos, just messed around with them.
Every old school H1 player Ive talked to is buying and xbox one just b/c halo CE is in this game. Its like a dream come true being able to play the best FPS ever made, over xbox live. It will be the only one we play. Personally Id pay 500 bucks just for the online CE part of this game, the rest I could care less.
I don’t know if people really understand the skill difference that will exist in this game, versus the other games. Im afraid it may be to the point where people who haven’t played it will give up on the game b/c of the giant skill gap and it not being so easy to pick up and play. People like our group have 12+ years experience on Halo CE, and a lot of us played nothing else.
Invest in a timer, or may god have mercy on your Halo CE soul.
I only played loads of ce matches locally. At my cousin’s place we had 2 tv’s and it was the older guys against me and my niece. Of course we got our butts kicked, but it was still a lot of fun.
