so its inevitable that chief will die, but how many more games until that happens? considering they changed the reclaimer trilogy to the reclaimer saga, i think it would be fitting for him to die in halo 7, considering thats such a prominent number throughout the series. then i guess locke or someone will be the new protagonist. what do you think?
I would say that Halo 5 is a trail to see if the game could work without the Chief in a main role, and that may advise the future games. Personally, I hope he never dies, have whoever else in the games, but there needs to be the Chief.
They changed it to Saga? I always assumed he would die in 6 or he would ascend to a higher plane, like the librarian or something.
They can still do prequels with chief
This one… :-/
It’s not clear if he will die, but it’s a fact his story is ending. Halo 6 will most likely be his last game though, Basing it from this article
I hope his story lasts longer than 6 (or 5 for that matter). The Halo games will be really different if 343 ended the story of Chief.
I’m betting Halo 6 since in an article they stated that they had 1) already started Halo 6 development and 2) were planning Chief’s end soooooooo ja
but in The Sprint S3 trailer there was that page from the script tat was leaked that may mean that Chief dies in 5
Not in the games in my opinion, or just at the very last second of the last game he dies of old age or suicide.
I’m assuming the Master Chief won’t ever be dying in this game series. It’s a sort of trite thing to do, in my opinion, and it would kind of go against the whole idea of his character: he’s an extremely lucky spartan who always comes out on top through sheer ingenuity and good fortune. If anything, he’ll probably accomplish his main goal, whatever that is, at some point and then move on from the spartan program.
One… Just… One…
All the games, obviously.
There is no sensible reason why the chief should die at all. Nothing to gain whatsoever from killing the face of the franchise which is why it’s not gonna happen. Obviously.

Halo is more than just Chief. The universe would never grow if we were viewing it under a single character, and there’s only so much that Chief can bring to the table. I love Chief as much as the next guy, but he isn’t Halo. Sooner or later, we’ll have to move past him.

The chief = halo
I’m calling it, the 7th halo game is chiefs last.

I beg to differ. Halo is a very diverse universe with lots of potential, but we’ll never be able to explore it under the hood of a single character. Plenty of games have managed to be Halo without without him, such as ODST, Wars, and Reach. All good games (except for Reach’s obvious canon mistakes).

I don’t understand this thought process. Why is it “inevitable”? Where does the inevitability stem from? IF he does get discarded by 343 it would be more likely (and lucrative) for 343i to gradually bring a new main protagonist into the mix and let chief go about his business within the universe making occasional cameos.

I would actually like that. Chief lives, but we are in the perspective of another soldier/faction.
Assuming that 343’s goal is to actually make people interested future titles, there is nothing at all to be gained from killing the chief unless it’s gonna be the last title in the series.
There is just no reason to kill him because he doesn’t have to die in order to tell other stories in the universe.
Killing chief would be like a guy laying a minefield and placing the mines so that when you’re done, the only way to avoid the mines you just laid is to jump off a cliff, lol. They aren’t that dumb.
It’s just not happening while the series is going.
I’m not sure about him dying but I definitely think that his story will end in Halo 6. I kind of speculate that H5 is an opening to a whole new story focused around Locke.
