I’m just really curious about this to see if anyone has had as bad of luck with these things as I have. I just bought my 9th headset, and I’ve never had one last for more than 6 months. It’s usually the brand-named Microsoft ones that go bad too. But I have tried alternatives, with a range of problems.
Some of the troubles I seem to get with my headsets (and I take good care of them):
-I can hear other people but they cannot hear me
-The little wires at the base of the receiver stretch and tear over time
-Others can hear me but I cannot hear them
-An annoying high pitched ringing sound
-Microphone stops functioning altogether with no indication as to why it happened
Recommendations for new headsets once this one inevitably dies?
If you don’t consider the Microsoft ones, I’m on my second headset. My first one (Plantronics X45s) started transmitting static over the microphone, but it worked fine otherwise. My current one (Tritton Triggers) shows no indication of deteriorating any time soon!
I’m considering purchasing a pair of Astros once I get the money, but I have no major reason to do so at this moment.
If you’re talking headsets in general, I’ve been through about four, including the cruddy Xbox chat headsets. But if you’re talking about the headsets like Turtlebeach, I’ve only been through two within a 2-3 year span. I had the X11s for a while, then an earpiece broke on me and I got some X12s for my birthday and I’ve been using those ever since. It’ll be a year in July since I got the X12s and they’re holding up pretty well. I recommend those if you’re looking for a new headset.
13, I have a graveyard of parts. the one I am using right know i have had a year and a half. going strong with a bit of help. heck I’m still on the first gen xbox360 (i fixed the red ring, put a new fan in it, redone the circuit boarding, and fixed the disc tray.) It will NEVER die on me!
I’m on my second turtle beach x12’s. I actually messed up the others on accident so I got another set. These actually last me more then a year and still work great.
The microsoft ones suck though. If you have 30 to 40 bucks, I’d recommend getting Turtle Beach X12’s. Their sturdy and useful for more then just your xbox.
Still with my First Headset. (Turtle Beach X31).
Although It broke on me once because of a solder ball got loose from the Battery terminal. So I brought out the good old Soldering tool and put it back to the Battery Terminal and It works again.
I’ve gone through about 4. My current one (the fourth) has lasted the longest. The the current one is not wireless either.
My first ever mic was an MS mic, that broke within weeks. The other two I can not remember what make they were…but they lasted a good while until they broke.
I’m on my first, but it seems to be outputting static into the headsets of the people I’m chatting with. It only seems to happen in Party mode. Maybe I need to open my NAT? It’s at Moderate.
Had a basic mic that came with the elite, broke that bought another, current status unknown, then I purchased my first headset, the Turtle beach X12s. Great headset, lasted for two years until the mic just gave up, the cables twisted badly towards the second year, now the cables are twisted and it has a broken mic, but the sound is still flawless. So for talking I bought another Microsoft mic (£2.50), I was going to buy the Turtle beach PX22s but as the headset is not compatible with the next gen just around the corner I decided against it.
